President concerned about alleged bribery involving prosecutor Urip
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was very concerned over the case on alleged bribery involving Urip Tri Gunaman, a former head of a team tasked to investigate Bank Indonesia Liquidity Fund (BLBI).
The remark was made by a presidential spokesman, Andi Malarangeng to the press at the presidential palace here Monday evening.
"The president is very concerned about this and on the other hand nobody is above the law during Yudhoyono`s leadership. However legal mechanism should be upheld," he said.
This case was expected to deter whoever in power to commit such disdainful act like corruption all of us should combat, he stressed.
"Hopefully, this will show the era of corruption eradication will make progress in creating good governance in the future," he said.
Furthermore, he said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has carried out its task and will continue their professional work.
As to the follow up of the BLBI case, Andi said the government`s stand was still unchanged during the interpellation meeting with the House last month.
"The scheme of BLBI settlement was already conducted by the previous (former President Megawati)`s government during which discharge letters were issued to the debtors. So what the Attorney General`s Office has done is a consequence of the past government`s policy," he said.
On Sunday (March 2) at 4:30 pm, KPK agents caught Urip Tri Gunawan red-handed receiving a bribe of US$600,000 from AS in a house in South Jakarta.(*) END
