Joseph Estrada, who was forcibly and illegally removed from office, might run again in 2010. As reported in the Manila Times, the president's spokeperson said the former president wants the opposition to unite and field one unified candidate. If they don't and they don't show unity, he would himself run for the presidency. It is the former president who is regarded as the leader of the opposition.

There are several opposition politicians expressing their intention to run, namely Manuel Villar, Mar Roxas and Jejoman Vinay none of whom seems to have the popular support.

Meantime, the president himself vowed to lead the opposition in a campaign against the proposed charter change. According to him, preparations are being made and schedules are being set to a nationwide anti-Cha-Cha(charter change) campaing. United opposition president Jejomar Binay earlier said the opposition will not stop the campaign until Arroyo abandons Cha-Cha.

President Estrada urged Arroyo and her supporters to sign a statement that states they will not push for a charter change.
