São Paulo - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva celebrated today (12) the 50th anniversary of the ABC Metal Workers Union he once presided. Accompanied by his former partners during the formation of the most important union Brazil has ever seen, Lula reminisced over the difficult times workers had to face in those days when strikes were forbidden, the military government was in power, and everything seemed to be illegal when workers rights were at stake.

Lula was the ABC Metal Workers Union president from 1975 to 1981.
