President Ahmadinejad wants the government of Iran to kill a mother of two children in the country of Iran for the crime of adultery. Although, this crime cannot be proved without a shadow of a doubt, prosecutors have continued plans for the execution. According to Mrs. Ashtiani there was an absence of sexual evidence and the crimes have been fabricated by government officials who were unable to incarcerate her for the murder of her ex-spouse and wanted her to suffer the penalty of a death sentence.
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been convicted of adultery and has been punished in front of her children by a flogging sentence where she was beat and whipped mercilessly. She received 99 lashes to her body and awaits the
public stoning which will end her life. Her children request help to save their mother including, dealing directly with President Ahmadinejad in a safe, and open communication where he is forced to reverse and surrender his power of decisions permanently.
The fate of an Iranian mother of two sentenced to be stoned to death at any time hung in the balance today as a last-minute campaign to save her gathered strength and her lawyer said even he did not know what the outcome will be.
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, 43, who was convicted of adultery in 2006, is "very frightened and very sad" as she sits in a prison cell in Tabriz and worries about the two children she has not seen in four years, said her lawyer. Her son and daughter started the crusade to save her.
"Sakineh is supposed to be stoned to death, and I still think it could happen at any time," her lawyer, Mohammed Mostafaei, told AOL News in a telephone interview from Iran Tuesday.
"She feels helpless and hopeless," he said. "She says she is not guilty, but the government says she is guilty. The conviction is a sham. I would like to think that the news of this case will help her, but I can't be sure."
Mina Ahadi, head of the International Committee Against Stoning and the Death Penalty, told AOL News today that the Iranian government may meet Saturday to decide Ashtiani's fate.

Is there any end to human cruelty in the name of religion?Whatever may be views of Islamic jurists(Faqih)of Shi'ite sect(the official religion of Iran) this incident is shocking and sends out a wrong signal about Iranian leadership.Adultry, fornication and prosicuity may not be acceptable to a larger section of population in Iran, but the kind of punishment awarded to Mrs.Asthiani is not acceptable to civilised people of any country, religion, secterian denomination. The Quranic injunctions were for a specific society and for a specific period.Quran must be reinterpretated to make it compatible and congruous with changing social norms without compromising with basic elements of faith and tenets.Without susceptibility to change to keep pace with changing times, progress will remain a dream.I hope that Iranian leadership will change the laws dealing with illicit sexual relations.Harshest punishment won't bring about any changes in aberretaional sexual behaviour.

The Qu'ran is perfect. And every Muslim must submit to the will of Allah as set down by Muhammad as revealed to him by the messenger Angel Gabriel [jibril]. To reinterpret the Qu'ran would be a denial of it's perfection and an admission that there is more to be known than what the Qu'ran decrees for faith, societal law and economic success.
You are fomenting apostasy and should be beheaded in a public square for all to see.
Somewhere in Lucknow a Shia Imam is scribbling out a fatwa for your demise.

Trans-Parere.I disagree with those who say that Quranic injunctions are for all the time to come and renovation(Ijtihad) is not permissible.Umar, the second Caliph voilated Quranic injunctions, some of the custom which Prophet had permitted, like allowing women to pray in mosques. If we assume that society does not evolve,is stagnant then more than 1400 year old laws are applicable.I ask these ignorant Mullahs why do you travel in cars and planes?Prophet and his companions rode on the backs of horses and camels. Why can't you?Triple divorce in one sitting is against Quranic injunctions, but Umar allowed it.
There are some progressive scholars who are against such practices and want reinterpretation of Quran.Reinterpretation does not imply that some thing has to be added or substracted. What is important is faith and adherence to basic tenets, that applies to follower of any religion. But necessary changes do not voilate element of faith and basic tenets.Punishment for adultery is neither an element of faith nor component of basis tenets.Laws relating to adultery and punishment for commssion of adultery can be and should be changed.
Quran is silent on hundreds of issues, does not offer or suggests political or economic system. We can treat Quran as constitution which can be amended from time to time to deal and cope with changing and emerging situations.

My dear fellow, in Muslim dominated countries that are ruled by the Clerics all power is invested in them through the Qu'ran. The word is their justification and their authority over the people. Any alteration of the Qu'ran would be proof of their fraudulent interpretation and nullify that authority. At least in part to where other then the Clerics could come to power and that is the same thing. People like Ahmadinejad while elected by the people are nothing more than hand puppets for the Clerics. The progressive scholar must tread a very narrow path between "being good Muslims" and apostates. Especially if they advocate modernization. More than one moderate has had to flee to a neighbouring country to escape persecution.
fraudulent is my interpretation of that abuse of the Qu'ran to dominate the peoples lives.

Again you are far away from realities. With the exception of few Muslim countries, clerics enjoy no power at all.In the Middle-East,especially saudi Arabia, the monarch is final authority and clerics who criticised the monarchy during friday sermons disappeared in mysterious circumstances and could never be traced back.
In Pakistan Jamat-E-Islami had neither any following nor enjoyed official patronage till Zia -Ul-Haque staged a coup and took over power that obscurant Mullahs stood by him and extended full support to his regime, knowing well that what military general was doing has little to do with Islam.
In Islam concept of priesthood, pope and church is altogether absent. There is no intermediary between man and God,even prophets. The ruling classes and clergy had a tacit understanding, and they have till date, and that was to keep masses ignorant of real teachings of the religion so that their minds can be controlled and they can be kept under subjugation and revolt against an unjust authority is pushed to the category of apostasy. That is why I say that after the assassination of second Caliph the decline of Caliphate began and monarchy replaced it.The monarch called himself Caliph and his kingdom Caliphate.Clerics endorsed it fearing for their lives and were rewarded handomsely in cash and kind.
There is no Quranic injunction which vests any kind of authority in clergy.First of all,the world clergy no where finds mention in Quran, let alone any authority.Any way,if you have come across such a verse please quote it to my benefit.

Trans-parere --- It is people like you who have gone astray from the bible. You do not follow the bible the way that it was meant to teach and to honor. You are a violent aberration of society and frankly, I think it is time that the US invades Iran and handles President Ahmadinejad the same way we handled President Saddam Hussein. All Iran leaders should be removed from any type of authority and we should place Iran into a democratic society. I VOTE WE GET RID OF IRAN AND ITS BACKWARDS PEOPLE LIKE YOU NOW yes now right now

@UNCENSORED NEWS.You,,too ,have gone bersek. You have no business to get rid of Iran or North Korea or any other country which is not to liking of the US imperialists.Iranis may be backward from you rotten and stinking viewpoint, reactionary from my viewpoint. But Iran had never had a blood thirsty and blood drinker president like Bush Sr.,the great Satan and his son George Walker Bin Satan.

George Junior and Senior are remarkable people. My sister is friendly with Sr. and I with Jr. No matter what you say the Bush's are Christian loving caring people who help strangers and even people like you who do not have an educated background nor an objective open mind.

I hope that other Islamic nations put pressure on Iran to commute her sentence to time served. Ninety-nine lashes was cruel enough punishment if she is guilty of anything at all. What happened to the man who she is accused of having an adulterous affair with? Was he sentence to death also? What words written on paper with ink is more holier or sacred than the wonder of human life and how can they make sex a crime?
