President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Christmas speech sparks row
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's a controversial Christmas Day broadcast on Britain's Channel 4 television as a counterpoint to queen's traditional broadcast has angered Britons.
British queen's broadcast has focussed on the impact of the global financial crisis. In his Christmas speech Iranian President Ahmadinejad says he believes that if Jesus were alive, he would "stand with the people in opposition to bullying, ill-tempered and expansionist powers."
The speech is being promoted as an alternative to the Queen's traditional 3pm speech, but will be broadcast at 7.15pm.
President Ahmadinejad has previously called for Israel to be wiped off the map and described the Holocaust a "myth". He was at the centre of a diplomatic stand-off with Britain last year, when Iran held 15 sailors and Royal Marines captured in the Persian Gulf.
Channel 4's decision has been condemned by human rights groups, MPs and Holocaust memorial charities.
Stephen Smith, director of the Holocaust Centre, said the president's message of peace was "deceptive", describing him as a "wolf in sheep's clothing".
He criticised "the fact that somebody who openly denies the Holocaust is given legitimacy on prime-time television, someone who uses Holocaust denial to be divisive.

Muslim do believe in Jesus as well, just as a messenger and healer not as the son off God like most Christian sects do believe.
The End of Israel does not mean the end of the Jews, big difference. This is against a states Government politics not against a people or a religion as such. Even South Africa's President has recently openly condemned the Israeli Apartheid system, even some Israeli scholars do call it an apartheid regime by now and those are Israeli Jews them self that can no longer agree with this politic and system that is based on a religious divide and where no one can be integrated unless being a Jew. No country can operate like that today, even Iran is harshly criticized for its Islamic politics that came as a response to Israel and is oppressing all other believe and groups.
Many around the World and even in Israel have urged for this form of apartheid to end and create a federation where all can live together and in peace, justice for all and equality.

President Ahmadinejad has never said that he believes that israel should be wiped in the literary sence. He means a change like in USSR and apartheid South Africa.
so pleace stop saying this over and over again.
please read my blog for other views other than the western propaganda media and the iranian propaganda media.

if he didnt like jews he could have done something about the jews in iran. almost 30,000 jews live happily in iran and even have parliament members.
why? because iranians saved the jews from babylon and the jews are iranians friends. they will always be. as an iranian im always proud how the persian empire saved the jews (we did it once again during WWII when europe was slaughtering them) and how they always should be thankful

Thanks Sanjay. This channel has had the Simpsons, Osborne, and a wounded soldier give the address. It seems very odd to have a Muslim who believes in Jesus but wishes for the destruction of Isreal, to give the address. Controversy is nothing new to Channel 4

Ahh...the conundrum, if he truly believed in Jesus, he would not want to wipe anybody off the face of the earth.
This man has proven to the world many times over who he is, and what he is about.
I believe in freedom for all and rights to all...that is unless they are against others.
He forfeited any rights in countries other than his own when he acted in the way he has against other peoples of the world.
Let him show his video in his own country...no one else cares about anything he has to say.
He is nothing but a squeaky wheel, and if he keeps squeaking, eventually he will get greased.
It is people like him who hurt all true Muslims and Followers of Jesus Christ, because the world associates his hate with his so called belief system.
Thanks Mahmoud Ahmadinejad...thanks for hating so many people and wanting the deaths of millions of innocent men women and children all in the name of your so called "beliefs", while at the same time offending those who truly believe in Islam and those who truly follow Jesus Christ.
But I guess this reminds me, just because you believe that something exists, does not mean you believe in it.

iranians will always be friends of the jews, and we know that we saved them and they owe us because of that. we saved alot of jews again during WWII when europeans were slaughtering them.

you made your point Shahidi..
but Mr Ahmeddin Najad doesn’t know much about diplomatic language.. being a president of a country like Iran one should be careful and mindful how world would see him.. to me he appears as an unhappy grown up man who wants to seek revenge for his short comings in his early life due to poverty or class system I dont know.
State of Israel is a reality. we like it or not but that’s the way it is and people of the region have to live with it. the only hope is that Arabs and Israel stop planning to destroy each other. Israel stop expanding and together work on commerce and social interaction.
may I dare to say one thing in the west? please dont confuse criticism with anti Semitism .. a true friend is one who has the courage to stop or condemn the wrongs of his friend not blindly support it. through out Islamic History Jews lived in far more peace and security under Muslim rulers than the Christian ones.. there were many holocausts the last one played by crusaders where tens of thousands of Muslims and Jews were slaughtered in Jerusalem.
yes , creation of the state of Israel is what brought Muslims and Jews against each other. I dont know how any self respecting American or any European will react if he is suddenly thrown out of his home and made refuge in his own land? he would do everything in his power to oppose or confront it.. that’s what Palestinians have been doing but the problem persists due to unqualified support of the west to whatever Israel does.
I really wish if Jews and Muslims of the region bring up the courage to accept each other's existence and learn to live with each other.

the pres. of iran didnt say israel should be wiped off the map. this is propaganda and i am actually quite surprised that a telegraph journo. should repeat this rubbish. then again...
to all you ppl saying how the pres. of iran "hates" such and such and your other mutterings - how do you know?
for goodness sake dont you have a brain of your own? cant you find out the truth for yourselves? instead of reading utter lies and crap in the biased western media? open your minds and the truth will set you free. i thought he put out a fine message.
dont believe the hype!

I think the reason everyone believes he said this is because ...he has, and his continued speech against them as a people and a nation, needing to be made non-existent says it all.

People know because he keeps telling them...
Watch some of his speeches, they are easy to find on the net.
Listen to the words as they come out of his own mouth.

Photo taken July 5th 2008 at the start of London Pride. Boris Johnson (left) was the newly elected Conservative Mayor of London who had unexpectedly arrived to lead the parade. Peter Tatchell (right) is a Socialist civil and gay rights campaigner.
As a Tory MP, Boris Johnson's mixed voting record placed him as one who was not fully in favour of the equalisation of gay rights in British law. Peter Tatchell has long campaigned for the abolition of laws which discriminate on grounds of sexuality. The two are, on many ideological scales, polls apart. To the best of my understanding, this was an unplanned meeting and one of the more unlikely confrontations in an event organised "to raise awareness of discrimination and the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of LGBT people around the world".
The event took place just over three years after the execution of two Iranian teenagers for, according to most coverage in the UK, homosexuality. The Iranian government disputed this claim, declaring that their crime was the rape of a thirteen year old boy. Nonetheless, the perception of the Iranian leadership is one of extreme hostility towards its gay citizens and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's public comments on homosexuality are amongst those which some human rights campaigners highlight as an indication of murderous prejudice amongst the leadership.
