President of UN GA on Gaza: ”it's a monstrosity“
Update 10 Jan 2009: As the death toll in Gaza passes 800, including 257 children, the impotence of the UN is breathtaking clear.
Israel has decided to ignore the Security Council Resolution, as it has many times before, that demands an immediate ceasefire. It took 13 days, due to the US veto, for the resolution to be hammered out. It was passed by the 15-member body on Thursday with 14 votes in favour and the US abstaining....
For the people of Gaza the monstrosity continues.
The U.N. General Assembly is the body that represents all 192 countries in the UN.
As the death toll in Gaza soared past 500 and the UN Security Council again failed to agree on a response to Israel's ground offensive launched in Gaza, due the US veto, the President of the U.N. General Assembly stepped forward and said:
"I think it's a monstrosity; there's no other way to name it,"Miguel D'escoto Brockmann of Nicaragua said Saturday when asked about the Israeli incursion launched just hours before."Once again, the world is watching in dismay the disfunctionality of the Security Council."
He followed up by saying:
Referring to the US and he
...blamed the weeklong violence in Gaza on the "unfulfilled resolutions of the Security Council," referring to the 1967 resolution that called for lasting peace in the Middle East after the Arab-Israeli War.
CNN's Richard Roth described the statements as unprecedented or extremely rare appearance before the microphone. He said it was extremely unusual to have the President of the U.N. General Assembly entering the diplomatic fray.

I think the U.N. is correct and it is great time we get rid off those Veto rights.
Make in a real Global Democracy.

Nothing new for him. He gets great pleasure hugging Terrorists and representatives from Terror States. What a surprise. Soon he will be replaced.

The correct quote is
"I think it's a monstrosity; there's no other way to name it," Miguel D'escoto Brockmann of Nicaragua said Saturday when asked about the Israeli incursion launched just hours before.
He was referring to the Israeli action.

It is a matter of opinion not necessarily the truth. He has said so many nasty things about Israel and yes Jews in his past, therefore it is almost no surprise.

The Palestinians have a real grievance: their homeland for thousands of years was taken, without their consent and mostly by force, during the creation of the state of Israel. And all subsequent crimes - on both sides - inevitably follow from this original injustice. The rockets from Hamas were in protest to the concentration camp like conditions they have been living in for 50 years. I would be on Israel's side if they had responded by easing the situation in Gaza, instead they commit this monstrosity! No matter what angle you look at it, you simply can't excuse the killing of hundredss of children, women and innocent men.

Terrorists are not born, they are forced to become. During the bomb blasts done by Israel last month (Dec 2008), around 600 innocents have been brutally killed with the Help of US, UK .

All countries and UN are all watching this human genocide. With the blessings of European Countries, Israel is killing innocents mercilessly.
Even now Media will not call US, UK , Israel and its allies as terrorists or at least "Sponsors of terrors".
Do you even think about it that you’re Mother taking last breath in your hand..........?

Freewind,
I respect your emotional need to create fiction but that is what it is. History lesson#1: There was never a Palestinian homelenad. Not ever. Please do some serious reading. This revisionist history is sad and old and lazy thinking. Hamas is a terror organization sponsered and supported by Iran. I am not a mind reader and really have no idea what is in the minds of Hamas except what they say. They say they want to destroy Israel and take the land. Period. This is a war with a guerrilla terrorist organization that hides behind and uses children as shields. This is against theGeneva convention. Do you think it better if Israel sent a rocket back to Gaza for everyone it received. We dont do things like that. Gaza has been underseige because of Hamas. Talk to them if they dont kill you first.

Global Democracy. That is fiction. It will be a group of petty tyrants that will make havoc of a body already bleeding itself to death because of its corruption and power hungry leadership.
