President's Day is celebrated each year in February to mark the birthday of the first US President - George Washington. The holiday also marks and celebrates the accomplishments of Abraham Lincoln during his presidency. President's Day was originally placed on February 22, 1885 but moved to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln on the same day.

President's Day is a federal holiday meaning that schools and post offices are closed for the day. Municipal, State, and Federal offices will be closed today as well as stock markets and libraries. Supermarkets, convenience stores, liquor stores, and bars will remain open today.

President's Day was designated to be the third Monday of February every year. President Barrack Obama will be in the White House today, and will later be joined by Joe Biden. Biden is returning from attending the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC.

But even today, Congress does not necessarily celebrate the day with the official title. While the House and Senate celebrate February 15 as "Washington's Birthday" this year, their weeklong recess is known as "President's Day District Work Period."

Many people are wondering whether certain places will be open on President's Day. A popular question is: are banks open on President's Day? Banks will not be open today. A lot of people are also wondering: is there mail on President's Day? Is the post office closed on President's Day? There will be no mail today as the service has been suspended due to the federal holiday.

Others are wonderng what President's Day activities for kids are available. The Mother Nature network provides some engaging kids activities that are green and environmentally friendly. Crafts, short stories, puzzles, and colour sheets are other popular choices that are easy for parents to provide for kids on President's Day.

Thanks. It's always confusing to know what stays open (or not) on this holiday!
