Research 2000 Poll Results: Health Care, Birthers and FOX News

Advance numbers from a Research2000 and Dailykos conducted poll, soliciting responses from 2,000 self identified Republicans nationwide, have been released and offered as " .... an interesting peek into the psyche of the minority party's base. ".

• 39% of Republicans want President Obama to be impeached.

• 63% think Obama is a socialist.

• Only 42% believe Obama was born in the United States.

• 21% think ACORN stole the 2008 election -- that is, that Obama didn't actually win it, and isn't legitimately the president, with 55% saying they are "not sure." This number is actually significantly lower than it was in a similar question from Public Policy Polling (D) back in November, which said that 52% of Republicans thought ACORN stole it. So does this mean Obama is gaining ground among Republicans? As it is, only just over 20% of Republicans will say that Obama actually won the election.

• 53% think Sarah Palin is more qualified than Obama to be president.

• 23% want to secede from the United States.

• 73% think gay people should not be allowed to teach in public schools. This position puts the GOP base well to the right of none other than Ronald Reagan, who helped defeat the Briggs Initiative, a 1978 referendum in California that would have forbidden gays or people who advocated gay rights from teaching in public schools.

• 31% want contraception to be outlawed.

Some of those percentage figures are pretty scary. Some of them just reflect the normal conspiracy theory mentality, but the amount of people - 620 - who want contraception outlawed reflects a mind numbing amount of incredible stupidity that I can only hope is not, and never will be, representative of the party as a whole.

Stejeb, given the small sampling, the results may require some form of extrapolation from a statistician but, one thing seems certain.

As this was a national sampling, the percentages represented by the numbers are intriguing, if not down right scary.

Sad statistics, unfortunately they may very well be reflecting reality.

The Daily Kos Republican Poll was conducted by Research 2000 from January 20 through January 31, 2010. A total of 2003 self identified Republicans were interviewed by telephone.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus 2% percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the “true” figure would fall within that range if the entire self identified Republican population were sampled. The margin for error is higher for any demographic subgroup, such as for gender or region.

Just think how frightening it will be!  How horrific the scale of destruction!  Horrors!

These folks are actual citizens of the US of A!!!!

They get to vote our friendly Democrats out of office!

Grab your hard hats, run for cover!  They are coming!  The Republicans get to vote!!

Now that the excitement is over, could someone tell me, do they have a poll that shows the number of Liberals that thought that GWB is an actual nazi?  Anyone?

O, wait - the answer will be that EVERYONE knows that Bush is an actual nazi - and perhaps a high ranking nazi, no?

Yes, a horror of horrors but, thank God they represent the minority in this country.

Interesting poll results and sad.  I have seen similar poll results when Bush was the president.  So many wanted him impeached.  So many thought he was fascist.  So many thought that he stole the election.  It just shows the crippling polarization of America.

MOULITSAS: Well, what we found with this poll—and we‘re releasing it tomorrow at around noon Eastern Time, and this is a nonpartisan independent pollster—is that about 1/3 of Republicans are what to be characterized as sane, about 1/3 think Obama was born in the United States, about 1/3 don‘t think Obama should be impeached. We‘re talking impeachment here, without a hint of scandal.

You do understand that some folks consider it scandalous that he was elected, no? Just as some folks were scandalized that GWB was elected - twice!

Some folks believing it scandalous President Obama was elected, Hugh, doesn't explain the more bizarre polling results offered here except maybe to indicate a desire by many to grasp at straws for a rationale to placate themselves and assure themselves that what they want to believe are reasonable beliefs despite indications otherwise.

As i alluded to above, Karen, let us see some poll results showing how you Liberals responded to GWB - just for comparison's sake.

Yes, yes, i realize them there red-neck Republicans are plumb crazy, but i kinda sorta gotta hunch that there are still of few of the crazy types loose amongst the Liberals.  I do see a few wandering around here, on occasion.

Hugh, the main thing I know about this Obama inspired drama is some of the nuttiest stuff ever heard in years emerged; he's a Svengali, a demon seed spawned to take his place at the Devil's LEFT hand to lead us to hell, the delusional birthers etc.

I have never seen any polls, until now or even for Republicans in the past, that could come close to that kind of thing.

One of my FAVORITES was former movie critic turned Right Wing conservative commentator and radio personality Michael Medved's crusade feeling there was a need to have instances of fainting women at then Candidate Obama's campaign rallies be investigated.

Liberals' lunacy is usually a little more high hat, like digging for and exposing corruption.
