Prime Minister Gordon Brown Orders David Miliband to Cancel Trip
The Prime Minister's Office has today refused to confirm that Foreign Secretary has had his scheduled trip to India in early September cancelled, amidst intense speculation that Prime Minister Gordon Brown is about to reshuffle his cabinet.
The question will be...where will David Miliband be moved? Gordon Brown could ally himself with one of his most powerful ministers and make David Miliband his Chancellor. Mr.Miliband - keen to shake off his "ditherer" image - could, of course, resign and launch a formal leadership race. For now, his supporters need to continue to deny they are plotting to oust Gordon Brown, whilst at the same time pushing forward the need for "change" and with it continue to high profile David Miliband.
Gordon Brown has pressed David Miliband to cancel a trip to India as he prepares the way to reshuffle his Cabinet.
The Prime Minister has ordered a series of meetings with his most senior ministers at the start of next month as he seeks to restore his authority, The Times has learnt.
The meetings — which include two so-called political sessions of Cabinet and an awayday — indicate that Mr Brown could be planning to reshuffle his ministers within weeks.
