There are prophecies and oracles from around the world that all seem to point to December 21, 2012 as doomsday /New World Age . The ancient Mayan Calendar, the medieval predictions of Merlin, the Book of Revelation and the Chinese oracle of the I Ching all point to this specific date as the end of civilization. The Mayan calendar comes to a close on December 21st 2012. The problem I have with this forecasts, they invite you to do nothing, because anyway...may be that's why they are mass distributed to keep people out of action.
Anyway what ever happens the question is "How to survive ? " the people with training of survival instincts are on the right way. The problem I see the nuclear fire in the hands of countries like yours, makes me thinking better not.The reality, this planet is in a quantum leap with soon 10bn people, so better learn to think faster and complex.

Good article, thanks for initiating this important conversation.
2012 presents a strange and bizarre confluence of multiple beliefs, mythologies, traditions, predictions/prophecies, and even cosmologies. Never before has one period of time (or even one date -- December 21, 2012) been the object of so much doom's day speculation. It is rapidly becoming Y2K on steroids.
Its almost as if we have an obsession, or perhaps a twisted desire, to see the world come to an end in our generation, (incidentally, each generation since the dawn of man has thought that they would see the 'end of times' in their life; it must be hardwired into our DNA). I think fundamentally we all feel that the earth is changing, and that we, as a species, are off course. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." Perhaps we want the world to fix itself, even if that means humans get 'thinned' in the process?
Regardless, 2012 does present some sobering, scientifically proven risks (aside from the fear-mongering scams), that we should take seriously. And, short of a catastrophic, species-ending event, this is a date that you can prepare for. I have spent years studying 2012, both the scholarship and the nonsense, and my conclusion is that you should take the date seriously if for no other reason than SO MANY people actually want it to happen. Its called 'collective manifestation' and it should worry you. I don't think you should build a bomb shelter (after all, who can afford one in this economy?), but you should be prepared for a lengthy disruption in infrastructure. Think long term food and water supplies and you should be okay.

if your talking about "self-fulfilling prophesy" i'm with you.
although the Mayans never said it was the end of the world, it's basically a new era. all i know is, i'll be hiding on a mountain-top that weekend just to be sure i'm one of the survivors, if there is an apocalypse.

This is very true. Although the "end of the world" will come, people will survive and rebuild as they have for thousands of years. Were definitely in for a dramatic change, there's no doubt of that. We should prepare now...its already almost 2010. Godspeed

Sighs... Why is everybody so afraid? There are two possibles here-: One, the war might come. Two, the war may not war- the future isn't written on any stone. Anyway if it does come, then there is a way to fight or survive, if there wasn't- then we wouldn't have foretold anything. The thought foretell is made so that we can prepare ourselves not to fear. People survive World War One and Two, so would Three, Four, Five... Why fear? Why not find ways to survive? If we fight evil creatures fight back! If it the end of the world- thats a big lie, because Jesus hasnt came back to fetch us as he promised so he wont just kill everybody. Now see? There is a way to Survive!!! And I wont worry because Im happy to be one of those who will live after 2012 and years after that. There is a way to survive so concentrate on that not negative thoughts. IT CALLED WAR BECAUSE IT ABOUT FIGHTING BACK!!! KILL OR BE KILLED IN OTHER WORDS. Give me a better reason why it called war... Al Babiex
