Port Deposit, Maryland: Propane Truck Crashes into Condo Complex

A tanker truck carrying propane has crashed into a complex of condos in Port Deposit, Maryland on August 14, 2012.

Emergency crews had to plug a propane leak in the truck's tank, as well as extricate the driver trapped in the cab.

The 18-wheeler was carrying 9,000 gallons of propane when the driver lost control and crashed into the Tomes Landing condo complex. Residents were told to evacuate to the nearby town hall, and the town center was closed off.

Just siphoning the propane into a stable vehicle will take up to 12 hours.

The town, which has between 600 and 700 residents, is not expected to be reopened for 12 to 24 hours, town government administrative assistant Kathy Gray said.

Port Deposit is a small town on the Susquehanna River; see map below.
