conservation group is asking the state to ban the use of prairie dogs as target practice and amusement.

A group called WildEarth Guardians says violent videos that are popping up on the Internet are causing people to glorify the killing of the animals, and the Colorado Wildlife Commission has accepted their petition.

Prairie dogs are cute little rodents or a dangerous pest, depending on your point of view. But both sides agree that shooting them for amusement, putting it to music and posting it online is wrong.

I'm in England so we only see these little guys in the zoo but I can't imagine how anyone could find hurting them fun.

Just a cute little prairie dog enjoying the day. We're the ones invading their territory. Who are we to call them pests and glorify killing them for fun?

This was taken in the Wichita wildlife refuge. The refuge is one of the few places in Oklahoma that wildlife is protected. The prairie dogs have lost a lot of their habitat and have been eradicated in a lot of places. They are fun to watch they each have their own “squeak” and personality.
