Some Tibet protesters have scaled the Golden Gate bridge in advance of Wednesday's San Francisco leg of the Olympic torch relay.

More as it comes in.  If anyone has more information or pictures, please update the story below.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Three protesters are climbing up the suspension cables of the Golden Gate Bridge as part of a protest to the coming Olympic torch relay.

The protesters are wearing helmets and one of them is carrying a suitcase with him. All three of the protesters are tethered together.

One of them has pulled out a Tibetan flag.

The torch is due to arrive Wednesday in San Francisco, its only North American stop.

Update (11 a.m.): The three protesters, according to CBS 5, are still on the bridge. One is carrying a suitcase, they're all "tethered together," and one of the protesters has pulled out a "Tibetan flag." Students for a Free Tibet has claimed responsibility for the act. (Yesterday, four members of the activist group affixed a 74-foot sign on the Westminster Bridge in London that read, "One World, One Dream: Free Tibet 2008.")

good stuff:

Rob Peters, foxnews is going to call one of the protesters via cell phone in the news few minutes.

Here is a shout out to anyone in the SF Bay area to provide footage to power this story

Thanks for the pic politisite.  I'm guessing this is just the beginning of what we'll see in San Francisco.

On a visit to SF from Toronto. Rented a bike. Police had access to the fort below the bridge blocked as well as bike access to the bridge. Ended up talking to one of the team involved in the demonstration. All planned. His girlfriend made the banners - she's also their negotiator with the police. They got on the bridge by hiding the banner in a baby carriage. All expert climbers. We're all safe. The F-16's showed up 3 hours later. Seriously.

F-16s were probably not F-16s but whatever did a flyby of the Opening Day ceremony at the baseball park.

I thought they said F/A-18s, but really I was too busy thinking my tax dollars paid for that fly-by.

I think its really heartwarming!  The way the protests are taking off and more disruptive with each new city!  Im sure the Chinese authorities must be pretty furious:  not that they will make any changes but we should be encouraged that street protests can make waves.
