Now just for fun, and it is not as if we are not laughing, even when it hurts, but here’s a list of subjects the presidential candidates avoid like the plague in the land of the not so brave anymore (since we only attack nations that can’t defend themselves and snuff out mostly women & children) and, of course, home of the free to vote on Diebold machines for one of two parties that stands for 4% of the population that, anyway, marginally needs democracy to rule over the rabble (now that would be all of us who were born with a plastic spoon in our mouth or are not friends with CEOs of military-industrial complex corps that eats up more than half of the nation’s budget while WE THE PEOPLE are being served political & journalistic pablum and pretty much getting laugh at, while our masters go on their merry way to the bank.   Is this what our democracy is reduced too ? Make the candidates & media dodge the important questions so we can all concentrate on the horse race ?  Winter soldiers and genocide policies VS. sex & sports! Is this the only narrative our raising half witted & analphabet citizenry will and actually does understand and can follow ?     At this point & time : it certainly seems so indeed !     What the Candidates Avoid

Here's the TOP 10 list of what you won't hear much of from the front-runners in this presidential primary season. Call them the candidate taboos.

1 #  You won't hear a call for a national crackdown on the corporate crime, fraud, and abuse that have robbed trillions of dollars from workers, investors, pension holders, taxpayers and consumers. Among the reforms that won't be suggested are providing resources to prosecute executive crooks and laws to democratize corporate governance so shareholders have real power. Candidates will not shout for a payback of ill-gotten gains, to rein in executive pay, or to demand corporate sunshine laws.

2 # You won’t hear a demand that workers receive a living wage instead of a minimum wage. There will be no backing for a repeal of the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act of 1947, which has blocked more than 40 million workers from forming or joining trade unions to improve wages and benefits above Wal-Mart or McDonald's levels.

3 #  You won’t hear for a call for a withdrawal from the WTO and NAFTA. Renegotiated trade agreements should stick to trade while labor, environmental, and consumer rights are advanced by separate treaties without being subordinated to the dictates of international commerce.

4 # You won’t hear a call for our income tax system to be substantially revamped so that workers can keep more of their wages while we tax the things we like least, such as pollution, stock speculation, addictive industries, and energy guzzling technologies. Nor will you hear that corporations should be required to pay their fair share; corporate tax contributions as a percent of the overall federal revenue stream have been declining for 50 years.

Note : As if Aaron Russo’s documentary " America: Freedom To Fascism" was not enough to make America scratch it’s collective head in wonderment…

5 # You won’t hear a call for a single payer health system. Almost sixty years after President Truman first proposed it, we still need health insurance for everyone, a program with quality and cost controls and an emphasis on prevention. Full Medicare for everyone will save thousands of lives a year while maintaining patient choice of doctors and hospitals within a competitive private health care delivery system.

6 # There is no reason to believe that the candidates will stand up to the commercial interests profiting from our current energy situation. We need a major environmental health agenda that challenges these entrenched interests with major new initiatives in solar energy, doubling motor vehicle fuel efficiency, and other quantified sustainable and clean energy technologies. Nor will there be adequate recognition that current fossil fuels are producing not just global warming, but also cancer, respiratory diseases, and geopolitical entanglements. Finally, there will be no calls for ending environmental racism that leads to more contaminated water, air, and toxic dumps in poorer neighborhoods.

7 # The candidates will not demand a reduction in the military budget that devours half the federal government's operating expenditures at a time when there is no Soviet Union or other major state enemy in the world. Studies by the General Accounting Office and internal Pentagon assessments support the judgment of many retired admirals and generals that a wasteful defense weakens our country and distorts priorities at home.

8 # You won't hear a consistent clarion call for electoral reform. Both parties have shamelessly engaged in gerrymandering, a process that guarantees reelection of their candidates at the expense of frustrated voters. Nor will there be serious proposals that millions of law-abiding ex-felons be allowed to vote.

Other electoral reforms should include reducing barriers to candidates, same day registration, a voter verified paper record for electronic voting, run-off voting to insure winners receive a majority vote, binding none-of-the-above choices and most important, full public financing to guarantee clean elections.

9 # You won’t hear much about a failed war on drugs that costs nearly $50 billion annually. And the major candidates will not argue that addicts should be treated rather than imprisoned. Nor should observers hope for any call to repeal the "three strikes and you're out" laws that have needlessly filled our jails or to end mandatory sentencing that hamstrings our judges.

10 # The candidates will ignore the diverse Israeli peace movement whose members have developed accords for a two state solution with their Palestinian and American counterparts. It is time to replace the Washington puppet show with a real Washington peace show for the security of the American, Palestinian, and Israeli people.

There ya go ! Now we can go on our merry way to the rapture with the inner satisfaction that we had all the info about crucial topics and that we did all in our power to bring peace, love, justice & the pursuit of happiness to all, just as this country’s founding fathers and Jesus whished we could do & share with all off our brothers & sisters the world over… Now, wouldn’t that be nice ;)

"The tyrant, who in order to hold his power, suppresses every superiority, does away with good men, forbids education and light, controls every movement of the citizens and, keeping them under a perpetual servitude, wants them to grow accustomed to baseness and cowardice, has his spies everywhere to listen to what is said in the meetings, and spreads dissension and calumny among the citizens and impoverishes them, is obliged to make war in order to keep his subjects occupied and impose on them permanent need of a chief." – Aristotle

My big issue is the health-care thing: both Dem frontrunners endorse a mandatory HMO system, which is pretty much the opposite of national healthcare.

That issue has been co-opted beyond repair by the insurance industry... Sicko, anyone ;)

I wonder how America convinced the rest of the world it is a developed country?  America is nothing but a big bully in an x-rated hotel movie. They have fought how many wars and killed how many people since they became a nation in 1776 and this is all they have to offer? Somehow the meaning to take back our country is rather a hollow illusion. Some how the idea that Democracy works sure doesn't look that way to me. I have more faith in the Fagaowee Tribe on the Island of Skull where King Kong lives. They stand about 3 ft tall running in the tall grass yelling "where the Fa gao wee?"

Dear djermano,

I'm afraid you’re half right ;)

While America’s history is effectively as bloody as you pointed out, you have to admit that American artists are not to shabby and hold a better hand as far as humanity is concerned ;)

This fact is also part of the answer.

Ultimately America doesn’t need no stinking war machine to achieve worldwide domination. We could acheive it all via our creative endeavor. We could seduce them into submission ;)

Our music, films & art can, and does, win over minds & souls in a much definite way that any bomb can do. Which is making today’s mess all the more tragic & the perpetrators all the more guilty of cruel war crimes & against humanity, since all the misery is called upon strictly by greed & crass empire building to the profit of a few industries : the military-industrial complex, oil & money laundring banks.

Case in point, look at what happened in Vietnam after we snuffed 3 millions of them… give‘em a few decades & bingo… a new wanabe capitalist country is born !

The same could be accomplished in Iran, for example, where the youth is sick & tired of the old ways of their fundamentalist leaders…

Jazz, rock R&B or funk, movies, books & comics are ultimatly much stronger weapons to permanently change minds for the better of civilization that any old nuke !

But enough of this rational thinking, now behave will ya ;)

Big Bro is watching & we’ve got a war to win !

White Noise, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Hello again, you are right I am an American and I don't support the war machine, knowing that bombs defend nothing, they only create more death. The death toll in Vietnam and Cambodia was more to the tune of 7 million, not 3 million, and that does not include US soldiers. Here America is only 232 years old, and it has more checks of wars on its list; that makes Satan look like only a kid stealing a candy bar. It is inconceivable to believe America represents the good of the people, when clearly it only represents the War Beasts .. We have the most bloated military budget in this day and time than any time in history. There is no longer a Soviet Union threat, no China threat, no WW's going on, only this manufactured War on Terror, where illusions rule the budget more than stark reality.  We had terrorists attacks before 911 happened, and when comparing that time to now....clearly there are more terrorists attacks now during the War on Terror, than when there was no War on Terror. These guys are the terrorists, as they blame others for being terrorists, so of course terror is going to increase. They can not possibly win the war on terror. They are deceivers of the truth.

The great divide between what the world thinks of America and our own vision of ourselves is exemplify in a couple of dossiers. 9-11 is definitely one of those…

Dear René,

I’m afraid this Republic could be down for the count this time…  It has been a long steady erosion of everything this nation had been build upon by our founding fathers…

STRIKE ONE : The 1913 economic coup d’état when WE THE PEOPLE stopped controlling OUR OWN money institution and became servants to private banks by paying interest on our own tax dollar. A scam still perpetuated today that effectively rendered the monetary independence of the USA a tragic farce.

Note : These facts are also related in Aaaron’ Russo : AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISM This film which is neither left, nor right-wing is a startling examination of government. It exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America since 1913 when the Federal Reserve system was fraudulently created.

STRIKE TWO : The 1963 coup d’état kicked by JFK’s assassination. This nation’s psyche was broken…still is. A whole generation of young progressive deciders (and our sons & daughters blood) was sacrified so 3 million Vietnamese could be slaughtered and America get the opportunity to have his military’s ass served back on a poo-poo plater.

The Warren commission proved that it was sooo easy to cover facts & reality with magic bullets and a complete disregard for the basic laws of gravity on planet earth for everybody saw the president’s head violently yanked to the back by the fatal shot, rendering scientifically impossible the Oswald theory of the lone gunman strike from the back … anywho! It proved sooo easy to fool America that they went on a rampage and snuffed Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King , Malcom X and how many others we never heard of ?

STRIKE THREE :  The GOP steals the election by Florida proxy, the supreme court sanctions the crime by wiping it’s partisan ass with the constitution , then 9/11 traumatizes the world and is used for the most dramatic shredding of everything this nation is supposed to stand for accompanied by the worst looting of the country that ignites economic calamity.

Why is everybody afraid of a simple, open, honest debate on those subjects? Why the great divide between big media's narrative and the citizen's induced Internet one? Why are the most important events of our lifetime shrouded in such controversy and apparent deceit? Will America go crashing down in flame as an "enigma rapped into a mystery" file of history ? This is OUR story people. Is everybody now living through a media induced proxy reality ? Satisfied with lies, showbiz & sports while your life goes down the tube ? Keep it up, your on your way, you’re almost there !

NOW FOR AN UPDATE OF WHAT THEY DID WITH THAT POWER >>>

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/08012008/profile.html

August 1, 2008

It's been almost two years since CAPITOL CRIMES first aired, and Jack Abramoff is in prison and cooperating with investigators. The public has since learned that Abramoff was only the center of a vast web of corruption. Each player who pleads guilty and cooperates with investigators reveals further the one-time reach of that web. As Bill Moyers explains on THE JOURNAL:

"One of the biggest scandals in American history has already sent one member of Congress to jail, others into retirement, and dozens of accomplices running for cover."
Jack Abramoff

Jack Abramoff is currently serving a five-year and ten-month prison sentence for the fraudulent purchase of casino cruise boats — a charge unrelated to his lobbying activities. He received the shortest possible prison term for cooperating with prosecutors in the ongoing investigation, but was ordered, along with his business partner, Adam Kidan, to repay a total of $20.7 million in restitution for the fraud.

Separately, Abramoff pleaded guilty in January of 2006 to charges of conspiracy, honest services fraud, and tax evasion in connection with his lobbying activities. Like many of his co-consipirators who have also pleaded guilty, Abramoff had his sentencing delayed while he cooperated with the government's investigation. On June 9, 2008, Abramoff's attorneys filed a joint motion with the prosecution asking the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to sentence Abramoff in September. Officials have said that his sentencing does not signal that the investigation is coming to an end.

>>WASHINGTON POST coverage of Jack Abramoff

>>NEW YORK TIMES coverage of Jack Abramoff

Tom DeLay

"The Hammer" resigned his post as majority leader after being indicted on three counts related to campaign contributions in 2005. A Texas judge dismissed one charge — conspiracy to violate election code by making an illegal corporate contribution — but let stand the other two more serious charges: money laundering and conspiracy to launder money.

The charges concern $190,000 the state alleges were collected from corporate donors and routed through GOP political action committees to Republican candidates for the Texas House. Texas law prohibits corporations from donating directly to candidates.

DeLay initially sought to hold on to both his leadership post and his seat in Congress but was pressured by his party to resign in 2006, before the end of his term.

Two of DeLay's former aides have pleaded guilty to charges related to the Jack Abramoff grand jury investigation, and the Justice Department has not commented on whether it is still investigating ties between Abramoff and DeLay. DeLay maintains his innocence and his lawyers have said he will not seek a pardon from George W. Bush.

In 2007, DeLay released a book, NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER. He used the platform to tell the story of his rise to power, but also to attack old political enemies and proclaim his innocence and importance to the conservative movement.

DeLay didn't stay out of the political arena for long. In 2007, he co-founded a conservative grass-roots organization, the Coalition for the Conservative Majority, and appears frequently in print and on news channels, including Fox News and CNN, to offer political analysis.

>>NEW YORK TIMES coverage of Tom DeLay

Former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio

Former Representative Bob Ney was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the Jack Abramoff scandal. In his plea deal, Ney confessed to essentially selling his office to Abramoff and others.

Because of the scandal surrounding Ney, Democrat Zack Space was able to win Ney's historically Republican Congressional seat in the 2006 election. The Republican party has waged an aggressive campaign against Rep. Space, and considers his a key district in the 2008 election, reports the NEW YORK TIMES.

>>NEW YORK TIMES coverage of Rep. Bob Ney

Ralph Reed

Reed's much-publicized role in the Abramoff scandal likely cost him the 2006 Republican primary for Georgia lieutenant governor. Reed was handily defeated in the Republican primary by Casey Cagle, then a little-known state senator. Reed has since ventured back into the political spotlight, appearing on CNN as an election-night analyst and writing the novel DARK HORSE about a third party candidate who shakes up a tight presidential election.

>>NEW YORK TIMES coverage of Ralph Reed

>>Ralph Reed on Charlie Rose

Grover Norquist

Grover Norquist, who allegedly used his non-profit, Americans for Tax Reform, to help Jack Abramoff move money in exchange for donations to his organization, remains an active force in conservative politics. He still runs Americans for Tax Reform, an anti-tax group, and provides campaign assistance and policy ideas to conservative candidates.

Though a report from the Senate Finance Committee found that Norquist agreed to "carry out Mr. Abramoff's requests for help with his clients in exchange for cash payments," neither Norquist or his non-profit are officially under investigation. Norquist has maintained that any positions he has taken that coincided with Abramoff's were on ideological grounds.

Norquist has also recently released a book: LEAVE US ALONE, GETTING THE GOVERNMENT'S HANDS OFF OUR MONEY, OUR GUNS, OUR LIVES.

>>NEW YORK TIMES reporting on Grover Norquist.

Others Associated With Abramoff Scandal

Abramoff was the most powerful lobbyist in Washington, and the Justice Department investigation continues to expand into Congress and agencies throughout the government. Here is a list of those currently included in the investigation.

Michael Scanlon, former Abramoff business partner and DeLay aide, pleaded guilty in November 2005 to conspiring to bribe public officials in connection with his lobbying work on behalf of Indian tribes and casino issues. He is cooperating with investigators and has had his sentencing delayed.

Ed Buckham, DeLay's former chief of staff, launched the Alexander Strategy Group after leaving the Hill. Though the firm openly claimed it could provide access to DeLay, Buckham has not been charged with any crime. A federal grand jury subpoenaed the House for Buckham's e-mails and payroll records in September 2006.

Former Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles, the highest ranking administration official convicted in connection to the Abramoff investigation, pleaded guilty to obstructing justice. He admitted lying to a Senate committee about his relationship with Abramoff, who repeatedly sought Griles' intervention at Interior on behalf of Indian tribal clients.

David Safavian, the Bush administration's former top procurement official, was sentenced to 18 months in prison in October 2006 after he was found guilty of covering up his dealings with Abramoff. On June 17, 2008, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit overturned the conviction. The court ruled Safavian is entitled to a new trial.

The Justice Department has not signaled whether it will continue to pursue the case against Safavian.

John Albaugh, erstwhile chief of staff to former Oklahoma Rep. Ernest Istook pleaded guilty in June 2008 to conspiracy to defraud the House. Albaugh admitted in Federal court to accepting gifts in exchange for helping lobbyists with their clients. He faces up to 24 months in prison, but could have the sentence reduced in exchange for cooperating with investigators.

Robert E. Coughlin II, a former Justice Department official, pleaded guilty to conflict of interest in April 2008. He admitted to accepting gifts from a lobbyist while helping the lobbyist and his clients while working on legislative affairs at the Justice Department. Before his resignation in 2007 Coughlin was promoted to deputy chief of staff in the department's criminal division — the same department handling the Abramoff investigation.

Italia Federici, co-founder of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy, pleaded guilty to tax evasion and obstruction of a Senate investigation into Abramoff's relationship with officials at the Department of Interior. Federici was sentenced to two months in a halfway house and four years of probation, avoiding prison by becoming a key witness in the continuing investigation.

Tony Rudy, lobbyist and onetime top aide to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, pleaded guilty in March 2006 to conspiring with Abramoff. His sentencing is delayed as he is cooperating with investigators.

William Heaton, former chief of staff for Bob Ney, pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge involving a golf trip to Scotland, expensive meals, and tickets to sporting events between 2002 and 2004 as payoffs for helping Abramoff's clients. Heaton was ordered to serve two years' probation, perform 100 hours of community service and pay a $5,000 fine.

Neil Volz, a former chief of staff to Bob Ney who left government to work for Abramoff, pleaded guilty in May 2006 to conspiring to deprive the public of honest services, plying Ney and others with trips and other gifts. On September 12, 2007, Volz was sentenced to two years probation and fined $2,000, avoiding jail by cooperating with the prosecutors in the case against Ney.

Mark Zachares, former aide to Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, pleaded guilty to conspiracy. He admitted accepting $40,000 in money and gifts in exchange for official acts on the lobbyist's behalf. His sentencing is delayed as he cooperates with investigators.

Roger Stillwell, a former Interior Department official, was sentenced to two years on probation in January after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge for not reporting hundreds of dollars worth of sports and concert tickets he received from Abramoff.

Tony Sanchez, former Guam Superior Court Administrator, has been indicted under accusations of bypassing Guam's procurement process by sending checks to Abramoff's law firm totalling more than $200,000. Abramoff's charges in the case were dropped when he agreed to cooperate with investigators in the case against Sanchez.

Former Rep. John Sweeney lost his seat to Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand in to 2006 reportedly in part due to questions about his relationship to Jack Abramoff. In June of 2008, Federal law enforcement agents raided an Albany lobbying firm as part of an investigation of Sweeney.

Former Senator Conrad Burns was defeated by Democrat John Tester in 2006, in part because of his close ties to Jack Abramoff. Burns accepted around $150,000 in campaign contributions from Abramoff, his clients and associates. In 2007, Burns joined a lobbying firm, Gage, which had close ties to his office while he was a Senator.

Abramoff and the 2008 Elections

Besides the cloud the scandal has cast over Washington, D.C. as a whole, candidates with close ties to the disgraced lobbyist still face difficult re-election campaigns, even in districts deemed safe for their party.

Former Rep. Bob Schaffer (R-CO), now running for Senate in Colorado, was forced to defend his ties to Abramoff after praising the Marianas Island's guest-worker program as a "model" for the United States.

Former-Rep. Schaffer visited the Marianas factories on a "fact-finding" mission funded by Jack Abramoff, a connection his Democratic opponent Mark Udall has been eager to point out. Schaffer maintains that his conclusions about the islands, notorious for their abusive labor practices, were made independent of the influence of Jack Abramoff.

Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL), who had been on an Abramoff-sponsored Scottish golf trip, was re-elected in 2006/ But THE WALL STREET JOURNAL reports that his ties are news again as he faces Democrat Suzanne Kosmas.

Representative John T. Doolittle (R-CA), chose to retire rather than run a re-election race while his ties to Abramoff are still under federal investigation. In April, 2007, the FBI raided Rep. Doolittle's home.

New Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Report

On June 9, 2008 the House Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform issued a preliminary report on an investigation into contacts between Jack Abramoff and the White House. The draft report does not allege that Abramoff influenced any of the President's decisions. However the report does document a pattern of access at high levels. The report: "concludes that Mr. Abramoff had personal contact with President Bush, that high-level White House officials held Mr. Abramoff and his associates in high regard and solicited recommendations from them on policy matters, that Mr. Abramoff and his associates influenced some White House actions, and that Mr. Abramoff and his associates offered White House officials expensive tickets and meals."

The Northern Marianas and the Saipan Legislation

Legislation vehemently opposed by convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff finally passed the Senate on April 11, 2008, extending U.S. immigration laws to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

In addition to extending U.S. immigration laws to the CNMI, the bill establishes a federally administered guest worker program in the American territory and raises the minimum wage.

Corporate Media Ignores White House Planning of "False Flag" Operations to Trigger War with Iran

White House Plans "False Flag" Operations to Trigger War with Iran, and the Corporate Media Ignores Such a Criminal Enterprise As If It Were Anthrax

August 4, 2008

Seymour Hersh is the most trusted and well-connected national security investigative reporter in the nation. He has reliable connections everywhere, including the Bush White House, the CIA, and the Pentagon.

Almost no one vigorously attacks Hersh’s reporting, including the White House and the right-wing media echo chamber. Why? Because many of his sources are from inside the administration and he has such credibility that they would just be drawing attention to his revelations.

Unfortunately, while some of Hersh’s bombshells get picked up by the corporate media, they are usually the ones that the White House actually wants disseminated, such as Hersh’s New Yorker piece on how the Bush Administration is currently conducting special military operations inside of Iran to destabilize the government. The White House wants to ratchet up the pressure on Iran with this sort of saber rattling.

But if the White House doesn’t want a Hersh disclosure to travel far, you can bet that the corporate media will treat it as if it were radioactive, or like they treated the anthrax story, ignoring the telling questions of potential U.S. government involvement, via the biological warfare lab at Fort Detrick, in the attacks on liberal senate leadership just before the vote on the Patriot Act. Nor did the corporate media follow through on why the White House and its shills – like John McCain and Joe Lieberman – were so quick to blame the anthrax attacks on Iraq, providing another casus belli – although a clearly false one, since the anthrax was manufactured in our own military research facility in Maryland -- for attacking that nation.

Last week, Think Progress offered us a Hersh disclosure that should have been on the front page of the major papers and the lead story on corporate broadcast news across the United States: the White House staff, led by Cheney, have been debating ways to provoke a war with Iran. If you are thinking Gulf of Tonkin, you don’t have to go back that far.

Remember just a few months ago that the U.S. corporate media breathlessly reported how an Iranian gun boat allegedly threatened a U.S. naval vessel. Only, it turned out that the recording that the White House had the Pentagon disseminate was doctored and no verbal threat had occurred.

And that is exactly what the White House has been planning, as in "kicking around ideas" that would precipitate a confrontation with Iran that would get the American public behind a war.

We’ll turn it over to the Think Progress report on Hersh’s comments so that you can get a better idea of the horrendous and criminal implications of what Cheney and his crew are still up to, even after the debacle of Iraq. (Remember that Cheney is after control over the oil and assertion of U.S. hegemony over the region.):

Speaking at the Campus Progress journalism conference earlier this month, Seymour Hersh — a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist for The New Yorker — revealed that Bush administration officials held a meeting recently in the Vice President’s office to discuss ways to provoke a war with Iran.

In Hersh’s most recent article, he reports that this meeting occurred in the wake of the overblown incident in the Strait of Hormuz, when a U.S. carrier almost shot at a few small Iranian speedboats. The "meeting took place in the Vice-President’s office. 'The subject was how to create a casus belli between Tehran and Washington,’" according to one of Hersh’s sources.

During the journalism conference event, I asked Hersh specifically about this meeting and if he could elaborate on what occurred. Hersh explained that, during the meeting in Cheney’s office, an idea was considered to dress up Navy Seals as Iranians, put them on fake Iranian speedboats, and shoot at them. This idea, intended to provoke an Iran war, was ultimately rejected:

HERSH: There was a dozen ideas proffered about how to trigger a war. The one that interested me the most was why don’t we build — we in our shipyard — build four or five boats that look like Iranian PT boats. Put Navy seals on them with a lot of arms. And next time one of our boats goes to the Straits of Hormuz, start a shoot-up.

Okay, so that specific "false flag" Hollywood style operation was rejected, but ideas for creating the pretext to nuke Iran haven’t been deep-sixed. Apparently, no one but Think Progress, a project of the Center for American Progress, thinks that this sort of treachery and betrayal of the nation is worth reporting upon.

Our policy at BuzzFlash.com has been to be very careful about conspiracy theories, because so many of them rely on speculation, since the very nature of a cover-up is to deny us information. We know that we don’t know the truth about the JFK assassination or 9/11, but we can only hypothesize about what really happened because so much of the evidence has already been shredded or, in the case of unwelcome people with unwanted information, rendered "inoperable."

But here, you have America’s premier investigative reporter informing us that the White House has been actively "brainstorming" ways to fabricate a "justification" for a war with Iran.

It’s another war crime, a war crime against the American people and the innocent civilian population of Iran, and again for oil. (The nuclear issue is of interest, but not the real reason motivating Cheney. He wants another Shah-like puppet in power and Iranian oil under de facto American control.)

When you wonder about why it is important to support progressive news and commentary sites such as BuzzFlash.com, think about who is getting this sort of information out to you and who isn’t.

By the way, many BuzzFlash readers are familiar with the confirmed plan by the Pentagon in the early ‘60s, "Operation Northwoods," to create a war with Cuba and the Soviet Union by attacking our own civilians. "Operation Northwoods" included an idea to shoot down one of our own civilian airliners and blame it on the Cubans, thus raising the battle cry among Americans to invade the island. This is no conspiracy theory, "Operation Northwoods" is well-documented as a plan (even covered by ABC News when it was finally documented some 40 years later in 2001), but fortunately it was buried and never put into action. Saner and less criminal minds prevailed, as President Kennedy nixed the entire Northwoods plan when he first saw it.

But we don’t have JFK in the White House; we have George W. Bush and Dick Cheney – and they aren’t throwing treacherous ideas like "Operation Northwoods" in the shredder; to the contrary, they are creating plans like Northwoods.

And the corporate mainstream media isn’t even informing the American people.

But as soon as one of these ideas is activated, you’ll know about it because the television news networks and newspapers will be covering it breathlessly as if it is for real.

Lives are at stake, as Cheney plots another war based on deception.

And no one but some Netroot sites seems to be interested in alerting the American public.

That is how bad the mess that we are in is.

The corporate media has become the third partner in the military-industrial complex.

War and peace hang in the balance.

ANTRAX TERROR : ANOTHER ENIGMA RAPPED INTO A MYSTERY FOR YA ALL BONE HEADED WAR MONGERS !

AMY GOODMAN: That was President Bush in 2002. And now, the New York Daily News is reporting in the immediate aftermath of the 2001 anthrax attacks, White House officials repeatedly pressed FBI Director Robert Mueller to prove it was a second-wave assault by al-Qaeda. So, Glenn Greenwald, take us from the point of the attacks to the direction the investigation took, from the government and this information to Steven Hatfill.

GLENN GREENWALD: Well, clearly, the focus in the initial phases was on trying to link the anthrax attacks to Islamic terrorism and as a second stage of the 9/11 attacks. And in fact, the anthrax attacker or attackers clearly had the same goal in mind. I mean, the letters that accompanied the anthrax, a lot of people have forgotten, were dated 9/11/01, and they said things like, “We have anthrax. Prepare to die. Death to America. Death to Israel. Allah is great.” And so, there was a clear attempt on the part of the attackers themselves to link the attack to Islamic radicalism.

And then all sorts of sources inside of the government were claiming that there was evidence found at the Fort Detrick lab, where the government now says the attacks came from, that also linked the attacks to Iraq. There was one particularly influential story from ABC News and Brian Ross, where for days and days, on Peter Jennings and other shows, they claimed that they were told by many sources inside the government that tests had found the presence of something called bentonite, which is the hallmark, they said, of the Iraqi biological weapons program. It turned out that claim was totally false. There never was any bentonite found in the anthrax, everybody now agrees, and yet, as you showed from the clip from John McCain—there was clips from Joe Lieberman several days later on Meet the Pressthere was a concerted effort to try and link the anthrax in the public mind to Saddam Hussein and to Iraq, specifically, and Islamic radicalism, more generally.

The FBI ultimately, through their tests, decided that all of the evidence was actually pointing to US government facilities and US government and US Army research labs, of the type where Bruce Ivins and Steven Hatfill worked at Fort Detrick. And so, they were aware from the start that it was almost certainly a domestic source, and yet all kinds of factions, within the government and out, tried continuously to depict it as something that was likely coming from Iraq, and they continued to do that for several years, even when it was clearly established that it was almost certainly a domestic source.
