NP Rank:
Puppet Karzai is misbehaving
This is confusing. General Petraeus wants to support negotiations with some “good Taliban” insurgents, but not the ones that Karzai is picking to do side deals with behind the US military’s back, and ones that Afghan minority leaders find offensive.
Karzai’s side stepping is so bad that his actions may lead to civil war.
How can the US stop it? Karzai is the nation’s elected leader even if some say he stole it.
We’re going home soon anyway. How about just putting the “going home” scenario on fast track since Karzai is never going to be the President that the nation needs, and America is never going to complete the job of Nation Building because WE CANNOT AFFORD IT.
“Minority leaders leaving Karzai's side over leader's overtures to insurgents
Washington Post Foreign Service
Friday, July 23, 2010PANJSHIR VALLEY, AFGHANISTAN -- The man who served as President Hamid Karzai's top intelligence official for six years has launched an urgent campaign to warn Afghans that their leader has lost conviction in the fight against the Taliban and is recklessly pursuing a political deal with insurgents.
In speeches to small groups in Kabul and across northern Afghanistan over the past month, Amarullah Saleh has repeated his belief that Karzai's push for negotiation with insurgents is a fatal mistake and a recipe for civil war. He says Karzai's chosen policy endangers the fitful progress of the past nine years in areas such as democracy and women's rights.
"If I don't raise my voice we are headed towards a crisis," he told a gathering of college students in Kabul.”

Amarullah Saleh's outbursts against puppet, whom he served for more than half decade speaks of cracks within ruling clique.Karzai,as I stated in an earlier post,is riding tiger.Only way to dismount is negotiations with Talibans, who may accept him as president.Talibans know that Karzai is neither a man of convictions, nor character, has all the qualities of a puppet, managable through manupulations. So he may be acceptable to Talibans as he was to American imperialists. It is a matter of time only.Karzai is likely to be found sitting on the other side of the fence, provided he is not pounced upon by the tiger he is riding.

Are there no smarter Taliban candidates? Are there no smarter Afghan candidates other than Karzai? Is that the best?

Talibans are smarter and that is why they are striking a deal with Karzai, who has lost all the goodwill of his masters.A thorn in US flesh,a boon to Talibans.Isn't that so?May be US wants an honourable withdrawl and Karzai is working out a face saving formula. It could be a unique case of puppet turned into a pawn.

Tell me what you think of the Taliban? Is there one; are their sects?
When I saw Taliban forces blow up ancient Buddhist artifacts and art treasures, and combine that with their treatment of women, I see an uncivilized lot that will be America's perpetual enemy.
