This engine damage on the Quantas A380, looks very much like a turbine disc failure.Although all modern fan engines are design to contain the explosive effects of a turbine failure. It looks as though some core panels have been ejected as well. With out a detailed on site inspection of the engine it is difficult to say what the primary cause was.Other questions you have to ask yourself are : What is the condition of the LP fan blades like ? Could one of these large fan blades broke up or detached and then punctured the turbine blades/fan casing as it passed out the back of the engine. All engine parameters will be monitored and saved on the so-called black box's and other devices on board the a/c. So the engineers will find the problem, just they have to find it quickly, and then devise or plan/implement a solution to it.This all takes time and mean while the airlines are loosing money while its grounded.
