India erupted into joy and celebration with A R Rahman winning two OSCARS in a matter of ten minutes. In his acceptance speech at The Golden Globe awards he had wished that as Indians are crazy about OSCARS, I should get the OSCARS also. It has been said that the golden globes predict the Oscars to a fair degree, and it was proven correct with the great show of Slumdog Millionnaire winning 8 and Rahman winning two Oscars.

All the news and the latest on 81st Annual Academy Awards - OSCAR 2009

He won his first OSCAR for Best Original Soundtrack and the second one for Best Original Song. Slumdog Millionnaire Millionnaire the rags to riches story in all won 8 oscars.

A R Rahman gave a fitting tribute to the Bollywood film industry by repeating the famous

'Mere Paas Maa Hai" in this thanks giving speech.

Dharavi slum in Mumbai was seen to be celebrating this success as the movie does bring to light the living conditions of children in the slums. People hope that Mumbai that has been in the limelight for terror attacks will be seen in a different light, even if got the life of children in its slums.

Resul Pookutty another India won an Ocsar for best sound mixing.

Besides these Slumdog Millionnaire  won 8 Oscars :

These are the categories where it won oscars:

Best Adapted Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Sound Mixing

Best Original Score

Best Film Editing

Best Original Song

Best Feature Film

Best Direction

“I want to thank everyone. The essence of the film is optimism and hope. All through my life I had the choice of love and hate…I chose love and I am here,” an elated Rahman said.

Boyle, 52, who had never before been nominated for an Oscar, beat David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Stephen Daldry (The Reader).

Boyle also becomes the first British winner of best director since Sam Mendes was honored in 2000 for American Beauty.

A visibly emotional Resul Pookutty dedicated the award to India.

An Oscar moment in the Academy Award-nominated film Slumdog Millionnaire, a life-altering experience for this low-profile genius who bagged his first Oscar for Sound Mixing for Slumdog Millionaire.

Sound designer Resul Pookutty is an artist who quite literally encourages you to watch the silver screen with your ears.

It's been an experience Resul is still to fully absorb. He made his Bollywood debut in 1997 with Rajat Kapoor's Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One.

"You've been so generous to us this evening, and I want to thank you for that," Boyle said to the audience when accepting his Academy Award.

Boyle also thanked his family, the film's makers, and the entire city of Mumbai, where "Slumdog" was shot.

A R Rahman won Oscars for original score and original song in Slumdog Millionaire becoming the first Indian composer to strike gold at the annual Hollywood awards.

Rahman, 43, won the original song Oscar for Jai Ho. "Before coming, I was excited and terrified," Rahman said when accepting his Academy Award. "Last time, I felt like that was during my marriage," he added

Update: All the Newspapers are colored in Rahman colors today with even the business publication giving prominant coverage to the Rahman feat. In short they are all trying to celebrate success in these depressing times!
