Call it free range stupidity if you like. There is a significantly large population of Americans who are poor, ignorant, and prejudiced who are exploited by politicians, radical media, and radical religion into a frenzy of hateful behavior. If you try to analyze and reason with it, you may have trouble due to the “stupid” factor.

For instance, the deranged 22 year old that shot a Congresswoman, killed a judge, and wounded citizens in Arizona was incubated in the Tea Party. His reported literature included communist leaders as well as Hitler. His video showed alignment with some satinical cult. None of this is coherent although the common thread, perhaps, is his rebelling against authority in search of something else to which he wanted to attach his personal belief and loyalty. I will leave it to the medical community to explain that.

What I witness is a nation whose political parties are too eager to exploit fear and stupidity that creates an environment in which extremists can persist and do harm. Here we have another Timothy McVey who is thriving in a small community that is incubated by a larger irresponsible movement, I think.

People are suffering in America in magnitude similar to that of the Great Depression. Prosperity from those who “have” disguises the suffering of those who “have not.”

The challenge in America is to recognize that the system must do everything possible to serve all of its citizens and to ensure that the bottom doesn’t fall out to such a degree that it undermines society with fear and violence. Attention to America’s internal needs is essential and there are simply too many distractions away from securing the homeland and achieving domestic tranquility.

Not lost here is that once again, guns are out of control.

“Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shot in Tucson rampage; federal judge killed

By Shailagh Murray and Sari Horwitz

Washington Post Staff Writers

TUCSON - The mass shooting Saturday morning that gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords(D-Ariz.) and killed a federal judge raised serious concerns that the nation's heated political discourse had taken a dangerous turn.

Police are holding a 22-year-old man in the shooting rampage, which occurred outside a supermarket where Giffords was greeting constituents. The gunman shot Giffords in the head at close range and then continued to fire into the small gathering of people, police said.

Police said they think that Giffords was the target of the attack.

Law enforcement and medical officials in Arizona said that at least 18 people were shot in the melee and that six of them had died, including John M. Roll, the chief U.S. District judge in Arizona, and Gabe Zimmerman, Giffords's local director of community outreach. Also killed was Christina Taylor Green, 9, who was born on Sept. 11, 2001, and had gone to the event with a neighbor. Two other Giffords staffers, district director Ron Barber and community outreach aide Pam Simon, were wounded.

Authorities said they were seeking a second man as a "person of interest" who might have been at the scene with the gunman. He is not a suspect in the shooting, authorities said.

It was unclear what might have motivated the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jared Loughner. On YouTube, an individual using the same name had posted convoluted videos with a vague anti-government message, that law enforcement officials said they were analyzing. As of late Saturday, Loughner wasn't cooperating with investigators.”

I took some time to listen to past interviews with Giffords, I found it ironic how she seemed to be less partisan than most and yet was shot by someone so extreme that bitterly complained of partisanship.

Makes no sense because the killer was not of sound mind. Not being of sound mind is no excuse, however as I believe a climate of hate was fostered by the Tea Party community or a faction thereof that gave this person motive to kill.

I don't know Jim, he may have been attracted to the Tea Party because they are more aggressive and with that would probably have a more empowered sense of self. He may have seen it going no where and became more aggressive. The Tea Party probably delayed what he ended up doing.

No doubt that an alternative to the Republicans and Democrats presented competition needed to move them into effectiveness, one way or the other. Critical are responsible leaders who educate and guide participants into actions that are supportive of the Constitution and respectful of the core process.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Jared Loughner shot and killed these people because of the hateful rhetoric he heard by Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. Now they want to excuse themselves from blame by saying he was unstable. Cross hairs were placed over many Democrat constituencies and were not removed on Facebook until these innocent people in Tuscon, Arizona, including a precious 9 year old girl, were shot and killed.

I think you go too far in blaming Palin and the Tea Party for this. In fact I find it reactionary. What next you going to blame some guy the next time he gives you a wink and a gun gesture?

Clotee, I agree with you.

Manipulation of the masses has become an art form in America. From corporate commercial mass marketing and public relations, to political party image and political candidates mass electronic media manipulation campaigning. Billions of dollars are spent on mass psychological manipulation efforts in America today. Big business, big dollars in Wash DC keeps this dumbing affect of the public in precise focus. The real question behind all this is how this became such an art form. What is driving Americans to become so focused without an enlighten voice or thought to guide them though mine fields of mass media over-saturation. Why do the enlighten few in America today remain silent as all these corrupting media influences unfold. Who is behind this mass confusion, moral deception, and limiting of our democratic ideals ?

This "large population of Americans who are poor, ignorant, and prejudiced who are exploited" can know only what they are told and are shown. It's this controlled psychological manipulated illusion of this large group from the enlighten powerful that control what they think and how they will act. 'Mindcontrol'_who is in control ?

Last thought concerns this recent and related hot issue of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shooting and who is this shooter Jared Lee Loughner is. The interesting thing Jared Lee Loughner mentions suggesting some 'mindcontrol' reference_adding that 'I know your listening' means what ? The public at large is oblivious to what 'mindcontrol' is and how deeply this goverrnment is involved in its research, specific mindcontrol programs, and applied technologies.

Blaming this persons behavior on Sarah Palin or the Tea Party for "targeting" Democrats in certain areas for electoral competition is asinine. Proof radical stupidity isn't limited to the likes of Loughner. Are you sure you people don't want to blame the Target store chain. They've been placing targets up on products for years. Morons.

Sarah Palin is a bit player in the larger scheme of a phenomenon of frustration from our nation's declining performance.

I agree, as is the current political Tea Party movement.
