In an update to the Now Public story by this author about the abuses of state power in New York,  with regard to home schooling - after a child was bullied and threatened in school  -  I am posting this link as an update.

This also updates this story re the case of R. Mangus against the Niagara County Department of Social Services and New York State Offices of Family and Child Services.

This link is a radio interview  which aired on the morning of January 19, in which Now Public editor Rhonda Mangus was interviewed regarding her ongoing case with the state of New York.

The toddler Baby Peter's mother was ordered to serve at least five years and and lodger Jason Owens at least three years. The boyfriend was given 12 years over Peter's death and life for raping a two-year-old girl. He must serve a minimum of 10 years. Baby Peter died after enduring months of abuse in Haringey, north <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />London.  Mother who injected her brain-damaged son with a lethal dose of heroin has been jailed for life after being found guilty of his murder today. Frances Inglis, 57, said she killed 22-year-old son, Tom, to end his "living hell" after he suffered severe head injuries when he fell out of a moving ambulance. She was sentenced to life with a minimum term of nine years.   Both Judges should be sacked.

Thanks for sharing albertacowpoke & smkovalinsky.

I was unaware of what was happening with Rhonda, I remember reading a bit about it a wee while ago.

Rhonda has my support for whatever her options are now.

Yes she has my support as well.  This is without doubt an injustice.

An injustice that if allowed to continue will further erode parents' confidence in both the state education system and the courts. As a public body, not commenting should not be an option, they are accountable and should stand up and justify their actions, though of course they can't because there is no justification.

It sounds as if the school district needs to move into the 21st century.
