CHANDIGARH: Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash most places in Punjab and Haryana, with the water level of the already swollen Yamuna river further increasing today.

In Sonepat, several villages along the river's embankment have been put on alert while in Yamunanagar too, situation in many flood-prone villages is being closely monitored, officials said.

Following the release of 3.2 lakh cusecs of water from the Hathnikund barrage near Yamunanagar, there has been no let up in the fury of Yamuna near Sonepat in Haryana, a report said
