Ratko Mladic Arrested after 16 Years in Hiding

Ratko Mladic, accused architect of the Srebrenica Massacre of  1995, has been arrested after 16 years in hiding. 69-year-old Ratko Mladic was found in the Serbian village of Lazarevo, where he had been living under the name "Milorad Komodic".

Mladic will be extradited to Netherlands, where he will face a war crimes trial in The Hague.

Who Is Ratko Mladic?

Ratko Mladic was the Chief of Staff of the Bosnian Serb Army, and is accused of commanding the 1992-1996 siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica Massacre, which was the largest mass murder in Europe since World War II. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) holds Mladic responsible for over 18,000 deaths.

Ratko Mladic's campaign of violence in the Balkans actually gave birth to the term "ethnic cleansing".

He is responsable for a lot more tragedies. Croat towns were attacked, and the siege of Sarajevo. The number of slaughtered people is way more than 8000.
