New York City mayor candidate Michael Bloomberg was re-elected as the city mayor yesterday. And, it seems the popular social network Facebook become No.1 choice for Bloomberg to break the news of his victory. The result of the election was made known around 18 hours ago, which coincides with the time stamp on Bloomberg's victory post on Facebook.

On his Facebook fan page, Bloomberg says,

Thank you #NYC Humbled, proud, & excited to have the opportunity to serve you for another 4 yrs!

Bloomberg's Facebook fan page has over 26,000 supporters. It also features fairly regular status updates, YouTube videos, and donation soliciting boxes. Bloomberg's main opponent Bill Thomspon also has a regular following on Facebook. His fanpage is a lot more 'modest' looking compared to that of Thompson. It counts nearly 5,000 supporters and has lots of activity. On election night,Thompson too addressed his supporters through Facebook saying,

Thank you very much to all our volunteers and supporters. You've been awesome this campaign. Come out and party: http://bit.ly/3dI3LR #NYC

Both candidates also have Twitter accounts, which mostly duplicated Facebook content throughout the campaign (Bloomberg's Twitter, Thompson's Twitter).
