Rob Wilson, headed down to his former university on Wednesday to meet and greet new students at Reading University’s Freshers’ Fair, in his role as Shadow Higher Education Minister.

Freshers’ Fair provides new students with a great chance to join up with some of the university’s plethora of sports clubs, societies or volunteer groups. Whilst there, Rob showed his support for the newly revived Conservative Society (RUCSOC), which has been resurrected by new President Alex Kirke. The new society signed-up 70 new members on the day, a fantastic achievement which reflects on Alex and his team’s hard work.   As was demonstrated by the huge numbers of new young members at the Conference in Birmingham, David Cameron’s direction of the party has significantly increased its appeal to younger voters.

Rob commented, “I was delighted to visit Reading University and meet some of the new students that will be living here for at least the next three years. It’s great to see people from all over the country choosing to come to Reading and hopefully, when they finish their studies they won’t want to leave as they will have seen what a great town Reading is and we want to keep their talent here!”

He added, “Freshers’ Fair provides new students with an opportunity to meet new people, which will help them settle into life at university. Alex has done a great job setting up the new Conservative Society and we hope that this will help the party gets its message across to more students.”

Rob also met with new Students’ Union (RUSU) President Rhiannon Horsley during his visit and reminisced about his time as President in 1987-88. He even managed to track down RUSU’s ‘hall of fame’ board, recognising past Presidents – something which he has spent the past 3 years trying to locate! You can see Rob finding the Board on his YouTube Channel: http://uk.youtube.com/user/robwilsonmp.
