9th October 2008

Rob Wilson MP, has today written to schools throughout his Reading East Constituency to launch his annual Christmas Card competition. Head Teachers from Primary and Secondary schools throughout Reading East are being asked to encourage pupils to take part in the competition, which was won last year by 11 year-old Freya Spiers from Highdown School.

This year’s competition is being held in conjunction with the Reading Post, with senior reporter, Linda Fort, joining Rob to help judge the competition. The theme this year is “Christmas around the World”.

Rob commented, “The standard of entries gets better every year and I want to encourage all schoolchildren in Reading East to take part this year.  The children go to enormous trouble and I really appreciate their efforts. Christmas is a time for celebration and, at a time where we are all struggling to deal with the world financial crisis and strained relations between states, it is important that we take every opportunity to come together.”

This year’s winner will get the chance to visit Westminster, have tea with Rob and take a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the Houses of Parliament.

Schoolchildren wishing to take part should design the card and submit their entry to Rob’s Westminster office no later than Friday 31st October. Each entry should have the name, age and school clearly marked on the back of the artwork.

Entries should be submitted to the following address: Rob Wilson MP, House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1A 0AA
