Rosa Brooks, in the Los Angeles Times, writes:

About 80% of Americans live in metropolitan areas, not small towns. A third of us are ethnic and racial minorities, but that's changing: Already, nearly 45% of children under 5 are minorities. Although 88%of us believe in God, 70% think that religions other than our own are equally valid routes to truth. And while 59% of us think that wearing an American flag pin is a decent way to show patriotism, even more of us (66%) think that protesting U.S. policies we oppose is a good way to show patriotism. These days, more than half of us say we prefer the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.

Given this, why do McCain, Palin and their team keep pushing the message that the America where most of the electorate lives isn't "real"?

Karen Hatter, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Some more insight into real America...

UN: Major inequality in US cities

Levels of economic disparity in major US cities, including New York and Washington DC, are comparable to those of African cities, a United Nations report has concluded.

It said race was a key factor for US economic inequality.

"The life expectancy of African Americans in the United States is about the same as that of people living in China and some states of India, despite the fact that the United States is far richer than the other two countries," it said.

Good question.  Since the statement on its literal face makes no sense it must be a high order irony.  Out here in 'real' America it is 3 below zero, 9 AM, the sun is due up in half an hour and our opinions don't matter since we are few.

America where most of the electorate lives isn't "real"?

When reading the original article, it is apparent that the author is addressing statements that are being attributed to statements made by the McCain-Palin campaign.

There is no statement that the few do not matter.

There is now.  Have a nice day, and I mean it, that's not ironical.

88% of people believe in God, but 80-90% of those making a decision for Christ are falling away from the fatih. Just because a majority believes something to be true doesn't always mean that it's right.

Maybe McCain/Palin believe "real" Americans don't pronounce the first "a".  Seriously, I reject any of what a "real" American is, just as I would reject a test of what a "real" white person is or what a "real" Christian is.  Why?  Because we all are real people and that makes us individuals, not some product of cookie-cutter citizenship, lifestyle, religion or way of life.

That's because you've been weaned on social hand-outs, and over population of children who have no idea who their father is, therefore, you prefer socialism!  Somebody has to pay for it, ain't my fault (sound familiar?).  Obama is a major promoter of socialism.  His hippy mother pawned her son off on his white grandmother to raise him and granny needed social programs to fulfill the responsibilities his mother should have faced-up to and shouldered.  Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out... socialism is good for those who have no initiative!

Here is a statistic for you.  <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />National Center for Health Statistics, 90.7 per 1,000 unmarried black women peaked in 1989.
