Reasonable Democrats and Reasonable Republicans
As an intellectual and a Russian immigrant, I have no use for the Tea Party. I do however have a higher view of reasonable Republicans, mainly the business Republicans. These people want to see the world develop economically; and this is a goal that I share with them.
I have once heard it say that it is easier to teach Democrats economics than it is to teach Republicans compassion. I am a Democrat with a degree in economics, and it has been a very valuable perspective to have. An economist knows how to arrange activity in such a way as to achieve the greatest benefit. And if one's goal is to make things better for everyone, then it is vital to have the economic perspective.
The reasonable Republicans and the reasonable Democrats both seek to improve the lot of humanity. This makes them natural allies. This, in opposition to those on the hard-right who want everyone to suffer the sin of Adam, or those on the hard-left who hate wealth as such. I am not against people's right to be wealthy. I've been wealthy myself and enjoyed it tremendously. I want to see wealth being produced in such a way as to reduce destructive and brainless practices. And that means at this time, first and foremost, converting to better energy technologies that reduce destruction and maximize utility and benefit.
The reasonable Republicans and the reasonable Democrats should be allied with one another. They both seek a better life for people, which many on both the Right and the Left fringes do not. They are both benevolent forces in the world; and that means that they should be working together for a better future. They aren't driven by hatred; they aren't driven by ignorance. They are driven by the desire to benefit humanity. And that makes them benevolent forces that, being benevolent, deserve to have more power in the world.
The reasonable Republican is one who recognizes reality; and this means, at this time, especially the reality of man-made global warming. The people on the Right who deny this reality are not being true to their stated principles. A Republican is supposed to be a realist and to face reality. The people on the Right who refuse to face reality are not being true to what Republicans are meant to be.
With the Democrats, the biggest problem comes from people who are into political correctness. These people demand tolerance for themselves even as they themselves are showing none. It was once told me by a liberal Jewish student that political correctness is an embarrassment to liberalism. That it is; and I for one look forward to the time that political correctness be ended and real liberalism be restored.
On both sides, we see reasonable people and non-reasonable people. And it is time that reasonable people on both sides work together. The reasonable people - both on the Left and on the Right - seek a better world for people. Which means that they should be working together to affectuate a better world for people and stand up to the people in both parties whose goals are contradictory to that aim.
