My initial intention was to write something motivational; to create metaphors so uplifting, present ideas so empowering, piece together sentences & passages so inspirational Obama himself would read with envy. But upon reflection, all I can guarantee you is something thought provoking; something some will disregard with a seemingly heartless, venomous, ignorant and insensitive tone while others choose to accept it as an unspoken and tragic truth/reality.

For a long time now many people have written to my inbox; haunted by a more tragic Zimbabwean reality, they have told me stories of torture and remorseless injustice; told me heart wrenching tales of the passing away or should I ‘murder’ of friends, family and loved ones at the hands of hoodwinked individuals who committed these atrocities at the behest of those in power. These aren’t just victims of MDC, they are victims of ZANU; these aren’t just victims of a recent past but they are victims of a Gukurahundi past; they are not just black victims but white victims as well; people who’s hope of finding justice may soon be swept under the rug by that same so-called UNITY government that now acts as a shelter and place of refuge for those who have blood on their hands; a UNITY government that allows the unjust to camouflage themselves in the chaos of cabinet reshuffles and government restructuring.

Zimbabwean mental, emotional and financial fatigue from the past couple of years makes it easier for us to want to turn a blind eye to these rogue elements that cower in the shadows and out of sight from Justice; but any person with a conscience and moral fortitude; any Christian who follows God's teachings; any intellectual with an analytical and impartial mindset; anyone with an ounce of common sense knows and realizes that there is something fundamentally and unnervingly wrong with the foundation and mix of characters this UNITY government has been built upon and around. If we intend to uplift our country, if we hope to recapture our Nation's virtues we have to coalesce around and be resolute about maintaining the sanctity of certain nonnegotiable values, JUSTICE being one of these.

Sincerely yours,
Kwapi
