A Tuesday morning hostage taking incident at Luther College High School in Regina, Saskatchewan, has ended without casualties.   A former student held a pastor hostage at gunpoint during the school's morning chapel service.

Trista Gargol, a student at the independent school in Regina's west end, told CBC News that the incident began during the school's assembly of around 300 students for morning chapel services, around 10:15 a.m.

Gargol said that a man approached the pastor leading the service and handed him a three-page letter, demanding that the letter be read or he would shoot him.

As the pastor complied, other school officials cleared the assembly, but Grade 12 students, former classmates of the gunman, remained, Gargol said.

Police were quick to respond to 911 calls, and by 11 a.m. the suspect was in custody.  Witness reports are still being collected and distraught students are being given counselling at a nearby church.
