Relativistic Republicans
George Will has referred to some people involved in political correctness as "persnickety progressives." As someone who's fought political correctness ever since I knew what political correctness was, I give him credit for a rightful diagnosis. But there is another species I've seen more recently that has not received any attention in any media outlets. That species is the Relativistic Republican.
The Relativistic Republican is, foremost, a conman. He uses relativistic rhetoric to deny fact. He believes that there are no absolutes, which means that he is free to do as much harm as he wants to both nature and civilization. And the harm that is done affects everyone, and in a very absolute way.
I am a Democrat, but I am not a relativist. I affirm personal liberty and right over one's personal choices as an absolute - an absolute moral good and an absolute moral virtue. As for matters that affect the rest of us, such as global warming and federal debt, there is nothing to be relative about at all. These are matters of absolute factual reality, and no amount of conmanship, psyops, personal attacks or relativistic web-fabrication will change that.
The Republicans are very effective at two things: Lies and attacks. The first obscures the truth; the second makes it hard on the people who are working to tell it. It is often said that the Republicans go for the jugular, whereas the Democrats go for the capillaries. This state of affairs requires that some Democrats go for the jugular as well and to meet the Republicans at their ugly level.
I am willing to provide that service.
