Religion Weaponized
There is no rational excuse for terrorism under the guise of religion nor any justification for any religionist to perpetuate his or her interpretation of their religion through acts of violence or intimidation. It is a poor religion that must "convert" the beliefs of others; that can only be successful accumulating devotees at gun point or intimidation or by justifying violent acts.
In my opinion, each of the Abrahamic religions have with in their text acts or verses that can be used to instigate violence or perpetuate religious and social unrest. It is not the books, it is not the writings of  yesterday, correctly quoted, misquoted, all ways misused. It is people of low intellect and little imagination who can not compete in a creators world so choose to harness evil and join the destructors. They take on the mantle of righteousness and cloak themselves in scripture to unseat the faithful and position themselves falsely in the chair of the prophets as an authority that must be obeyed. They use every device, inducement, threat and discrimination to perpetuate that baseless 'authority'. See Taliban and the Pakistani Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam madrasah[plural]
No person of faith ought to give these creatures the time of day. Not surprisingly, it is the ignorant, poorly educated adult and the naive child who are the chosen targets of the extremist to be used to rabble rouse, used as gunmen and used as human bombs. The key word being USED. God may forgive the dupes. I hope not the instigators. See Hezbollah, Fatah, Hamas
Islam has become a tool of the destructors and the great shame is that there is no stomach in the Islamic world to place themselves before these terrorist and declare them non-Muslim. Instead they take their petty politics and small hatreds and snicker and smirk behind their hands. Feeding their own ignorant masses emotive propaganda in order to keep them 'unthinking masses'.
It is not Islam. It is not the Qu'ran. It is not the Talmud or the Bible. It is the people, and the choices they make and the methods they choose to use. Muslims, Jews, or Christians  who can not separate from their religious zeal need to be met equally with LAW. Enforced laws ensuring that religion can not be used as a tool to subjugate the individual. So religion can not be weaponized as we see with Islam today.
It seems perverse to me that religionist with in the same religion, having a different interpretation will make that an issue for violence, and with the same breath- declare themselves speaking for God as they kill their fellow believer. See Iraq and the Sunni-Shia civil war.
I think proselytizing needs to become an illegal act. Put a stop to that and the world will become a safer place immediately. And perhaps religions will go back to being spiritual instead of political. And then perhaps people will return to some degree of spirituality and then they wont be prejudging other people with their own politics and petty bias. AND just maybe society as a whole will become less the social victim and more the social contributor. [Due to the huge and ever increasing popularity of the social victim I will not be giving example. Leaving just one out would instigate a whole new series of victims and I can't have them on my conscience. :-)] What was it Marx said. "I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me as a member".
Or as the fatalist decree, “maybe it is just too late and the human race needs a vicious cathartic drubbing”.
Or the coming “armageddon” the Evangelicals are prophesying.
Either way, in the near future it looks like a lot of people are going to be dying in the name of God for the sake of a dominating interpretation of a religion. Most especially Muslims. The religion of um...peace.

In the morning gather thyself to purpose,
in the evening discuss the manner,
that thou hast been this day,
in word, work, and thought.
