In June of 1989, I passed through the student union of Cal Poly, SLO where Chinese and Chinese-American Students were handing out arm bands for us to wear in solidarity with the dead, wounded and surviving students protesting in Tiananmen Square. I recall being told that the writing says, "Remember the Students", but I am not sure if that is true. Moments later, in my class on magnetic fields, our instructor from China explained that we must be fully aware of what was happening and not simply wear the armband to fit in with others.

I recently found this arm band and have placed it with my other mementos. Also pictured are my grandfather's shaving and mustache cups, a dead bouquet given to me as an anti-valentines day gift, and some Turkish evil eye beads. I'm posting this in memory of the 20th Anniversary of the protests and the subsequent crackdown in June 1989.
