Rep. Bob Morris Critical of Girl Scouts: Full Text of Letter
Bob Morris Doesn't Like the Girl Scouts. Here is a Letter Explaining Why
What is Rep. Bob Morris spending his time on? Fixing the economy? Not so much. The Republican representative from Fort Wayne, Indiana sent a letter to fellow members of Congress explaining why he isn't celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.
According to the letter, Morris "did a small amount of web-based research" and found that the Girl Scouts have become "a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood" and states " Liberal progressive troop-leaders will indoctrinate the girls in their troop."

Members of the Republic Caucus
Dear Fellow Representatives:
This past week I was asked to sign a House Resolution recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of America. After talking to some well-informed constituents, I did a small amount of web-based research, and what I found is disturbing. The Girl Scouts of America and their worldwide partner, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), have entered into a close strategic affiliation with Planned Parenthood. You will not find evidence of this on the GSA/WAGGGS website—in fact, the websites of these two organizations explicitly deny funding Planned Parenthood.
Nonetheless, abundant evidence proves that the agenda of Planned Parenthood includes sexualizing young girls through the Girl Scouts, which is quickly becoming a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood instructional series and pamphlets are part of the core curriculum at GSA training seminars. Denver Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley of Denver last year warned parents that “membership in the Girl Scouts could carry the danger of making their daughters more receptive to the pro-abortion agenda.”
A Girl Scouts of America training program last year used the Planned Parenthood sex education pamphlet “Happy, Healthy, and Hot.” The pamphlet instructs young girls not to think of sex as “just about vaginal or anal intercourse.” “There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!” it states. Although individual Girl Scout troops are not forced to follow this curriculum, many do. Liberal progressive troop-leaders will indoctrinate the girls in their troop according to the principles of Planned Parenthood, making Bishop Conley’s warning true.
Many parents are abandoning the Girl Scouts because they promote homosexual lifestyles. In fact, the Girl Scouts education seminar girls are directed to study the example of role models. Of the fifty role models listed, only three have a briefly-mentioned religious background – all the rest are feminists, lesbians, or Communists. World Net Daily, in a May 2009 article, states that Girl Scout Troops are no longer allowed to pray or sing traditional Christmas Carols.
Boys who decide to claim a “transgender” or cross-dressing life-style are permitted to become a member of a Girl Scout troop, performing crafts with the girls and participate in overnight and camping activities – just like any real girl. The fact that the Honorary President of Girl Scouts of America is Michelle Obama, and the Obama’s are radically pro-abortion and vigorously support the agenda of Planned Parenthood, should give each of us reason to pause before our individual or collective endorsement of the organization.
As members of the Indiana House of Representatives, we must be wise before we use the credibility and respect of the “Peoples’ House” to extend legitimacy to a radicalized organization. The Girl Scouts of America stand in a strong tradition that reflects with fidelity the traditional values of our homes and our families. The tradition extends from coast-to-coast and back through the past one hundred years. That said, I challenge each of you to examine these matters more closely before you extend your name and your reputation to endorse a group that has been subverted in the name of liberal progressive politics and the destruction of traditional American family values.
I have two daughters who have been active in the Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council in Northeastern Indiana. Now that I am aware of the influence of Planned Parenthood within GSA and other surprisingly radical policies of GSA, my two daughters will instead become active in American Heritage Girls Little Flowers organization. In this traditional group they will learn about values and principles that will not confuse their conservative Hoosier upbringing.
I have been told that, as of today, I am the only member not supporting the Girl Scout Resolution.
I challenge each of you to examine these matters and to decide carefully whether or not to sign the resolution.
Respectfully,
Bob Morris

It makes one think. If America ever shares Australia's vision of equality by officially changing the name of the "Boy Scouts' to "Scouts" and admitting both male and female members, I think I would be extremely uncomfortable with such teachings if I were the parent of a girl.
I know it's a double standard, but parents tend not to agonize about a son's virtue as they do about their daughter's virtue. I know this first hand, since I was the first female Scout Leader in Australia - an experiment, to see how female leaders could be absorbed into the Scouts and to see if they could hold the respect of the boys as well as the girls.
A prude or religious zealot I'm not - but I also don't want abortion to become an issue in the Scouts, who have managed now to successfully integrate both female members and leaders for nearly 25 years (in Australia). Something like this could be very harmful to this highly successful Institution, causing a pro/anti-abortion split right down the middle.
I can see parents (not the kids so much) boycotting the Scouts because of their own held beliefs on the subject - and that does the kids an extreme disservice.
I guess while the Boy scouts only admit boys here in America, the idea is not so ludicrous - there aren't many teenage boys who will absorb the teachings of planned parenthood anyway.
Great article!
I'm not against minors learning that they have a choice about such matters, I just think that the Scouts is the wrong venue to feature such a debate. Isn't it enough that many school districts now have planned parenthood classes due to the number of teen pregnancies?

Robert Morris, Please keep your personal Relgious beliefs to yourself and out of public office responsibilities. First of all absolutely no relgious doctrines are based on facts of any kind but are totally faith based. Meaning none of your dogmas can be validated with any facts ( like GOD inspired or Jesus Christ said so). It sounds like you want to control women, there are no such blabberings against the boy scouts.. Are you tying your honor to family female virginity? Sounds like another religion which you rant against. It is like the pot calling the kettle black. Any man's honor is based on their own actions.....not on whether his female daughters are virgins.... Stop being criminally stupid and dishonoring yourself.

in the name of sexual equality you have infiltrated 'boy scouts' and removed boy from the title. how many men have been accepted to lead the 'girl scouts''? And why do you uphold the girl in 'girl scouts' if you're such a wonderfully liberal social transformer? if you're a girl 'boy scout', who has been successful in removing the 'boy' aren't girl scouts redundant?

Men lead Girl Scout troops all the time. Dads are just as important to girls as moms. In America, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are separate organizations. Boy Scouts allows girls in high school to take part in their events and form troops as "Venture Scouts," while Girl Scouts are girls only, including transgender girls.Girl Scouts in Australia are known as Girl Guides. Boy Scouts have changed their name to Scouts and allows girls of all ages in. The international Boy Scouts call themselves Scouts because the organization is dedicated not just to boys but to "young people."

Totally agree with Rep Morris. Some 30 yrs ago my daughter wanted to join the GS, & we had to tell her (& her younger sisters) no, because they were pro-abortion. This was something my husband & I felt was our responsibility to discuss with them & was outside the boundaries of the GS's original program which I had been in as a child. When I talked to the local GS leader ( she lived accross the street from me) who had been a "well respected ldr" for over 30 yrs, She told me she didn't know?! How could she not know? I told her if she found out differently, we would allow our daughter to join. It never happened. The GS were lying about their prog then & still are. Supposedly, there was a PDF file we could go to today to see how they deal with these "sensitive" issues today. When I clicked on it I got Google. I tried 4 different sites-none of them had it,3 sent me bk to google. Again, I applaud Rep Morris.

Dude (I'm assuming you're a dude because 77% of pro-lifers are men and 100% of them will NEVER be pregnant, therefore never understand the value of a woman's life), you did your daughters are HUGE disservice. Keep your personal politics out of your kids' lives. Screw you and your pro-life bull.

I respect that you want those sensitive issues to be a private matter. That should have been something you discussed with the troop leader. Each Girl Scout troop is different. The girls decide what they want to work towards. No leader is forced to talk about that and Girl Scouts are respectful to the values of all girls and families. Whether you're pro-life or pro-choice doesn't matter; you can still be a member of Girl Scouts.

About Girl Scouts USA:Mandatory "Journeys" curriculum - radical feminists, communists, etc. presented as role models; e.g., Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Emily Greene Balch, Jeannette Rankin - (100questionsforthegirlscouts.org)Elizabeth Gurley Flynn - ACLU founding member, American Communist Party chairwoman (Wikipedia)Women's Media Center (recommended in "MEdia," a Journeys book for ages 11-14) - founded by Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinam, and Robin Morgan. Screenshot shows they linked to 27 leftist groups; e.g., PP, Ms., Media Matters, feministing, etc., (speaknowgirlscouts.com). Media Matters (recommended in "MEdia," Journeys) - one-page profile doesn't mention its progressive slant or that it focuses only on conservative "misinformation." GSUSA decided to remove Media Matters from the book after Daily Caller publicized the link (100questionsforthegirlscouts, dailycaller.com)."On Your Own" badge - GSUSA web site sent girls directly to Planned Parenthood (speaknowgirlscouts).Local Girl Scout councils (e.g., NYPENN Pathways, GSEP) - identified on many web sites as partnering with Planned Parenthood (100questionsforthegirlscouts, honestgirlscouts.com, etc.).GSUSA CEO Kathy Cloninger (2004) - "We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with our church communities, with YWCAs, and with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.” STOPP investigation - "was able to classify a total of 116 of 315 Girl Scout councils. Of the 116, 22% had a relationship of one kind or another with Planned Parenthood," (girlscoutswhynot.com).Global Fund for Women (on GSUSA web site) - co-founded by Frances Kissling, long time president of Catholics For Free Choice (speaknowgirlscouts).National Collaboration for Youth (GSUSA is member) - NCY links to Spark Action, which promotes 'We Had Abortions' campaign, Medical Students for Choice, and Catholics for a Free Choice, (100questionsforthegirlscouts).GSUSA FAQ (www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/mpmf/faqs.asp) - claims individual girl scouts are not WAGGGS members and their dues don't go to WAGGGS."Comment: This is probably the most misleading GSUSA answer of all. Until recently GSUSA openly acknowledged in several places on their website and other publications that all GSUSA members are also automatically members of WAGGGS" (100questionsforthegirlscouts). GSUSA email - "Your daughter is a member of WAGGGS if she is a Girl Scout. All Girl Scouts of the USA are also members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). As a national organization we pay a membership quota to WAGGGS from our national operating budget. However, the funds do not directly come from girls' membership fees" (familywatchinternational.org)."WAGGGS - the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a voluntary organization for girls and young women. With more than 140 member organizations, it offers over 10 million members a dynamic and flexible educational program based on spiritual values" (Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas).WAGGGS membership - Girl Scouts of the USA make up 44% of the membership of WAGGGS, which GSUSA co-founded (girlscoutswhynot, 100questionsforthegirlscouts)$1,465,389 from GSUSA went to WAGGGS in 2009 (honestgirlscouts).2010 UN Conference on the Status of Women - WAGGGS delegates participated in calling for "access to comprehensive sexuality information, services and supplies for all young people," including "accessible, affordable and safe abortion." WAGGGS later scrubbed the abortion demand from their web site (100questionsforthegirlscouts).2010 UNCSW - Girl Scouts denied WAGGGS distributed Planned Parenthood brochure (GSUSA FAQ).UNCSW participant - “In the [UN] event that I attended the girls spoke about the right to sexual orientation, masturbation, the moral prejudices of society” and the topic of religion as an obstacle to their development. I am attaching some photos that I took of the girls (the girls who directed this event),” (100questionsforthegirlscouts).GSUSA Conference speakers, 2011 - included Dana Agamalian (PP committee member), Annise Parker (lesbian partner is PP Pac treasurer), C. J. Golden (New Age Taoism), JoDee Winterhof (former Hillary Clinton campaign strategist), Katie Couric (ABC News), (100questionsforthegirlscouts, girlscouts.org).
