NP Rank:
Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) calls Obama a “Liar” During His Speech
Unruly shouting and name-calling occurred across the nation this summer at numerous town halls, and has apparently now made it into the U.S. Capitol during a live Presidential speech.
During a joint session of Congress, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) called President Obama a “liar” when Obama said that the health care plan would not cover illegal immigrants. Many Americans are calling Wilson’s phone number (202) 225-2452 and his email joe.wilson@mail.house.gov to protest.
UPDATE John McCain condemned Joe Wilson's outbursts on Larry King Live! calling it "totally inappropriate."
Joe Wilson apologizes, but does not admit he is wrong.
"This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”
However, Wison is wrong. The health plan does not cover illegal aliens:
Sec. 246. No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
UPDATE!
Joe Wilson's opponent Democrat Rob Miller has raised $330K in ONE DAY, $137K of that, online. Here is the online contribution link.
UPDATE!
It's been reported that Joe Wilson has received over $240,000 in donations from the health care industry.

Appreciate the explanation. I wasn't sure who was calling out what during the president's speech... and why were some people holding up pieces of paper, Bills, I assume? If I were a South Carolinian, I would protest this bad behavior.
at 18:51 on September 9th, 2009
They were the Republican alternative reform Bill. Aka the do not take doctors or insurance companies to court Bill.
at 18:53 on September 9th, 2009
Thanks for the explanation Cynic...you are informative as well :).
at 18:59 on September 9th, 2009
No problem. :)
at 20:57 on September 9th, 2009
Thats a bit disingenuous. It has tort reform, not, you can't sue anyone. Do you know who has no sue policies? Places like the VA medical centers and Native American Healthcare... Government Healthcare. TORT reform lowers the maximum dollar amount that one can get in a suit for other than actual damages. But that is a small part of that bill. So it is not the "do not take doctors or insurance companies to cout bill just as H.R. 3200 is not the Lawyers make big money bill. Be honest, why don't the democrats want tort reform? Most of the are trial lawyers. Many Republicans are actual doctors who know somethiing about medicine and what is needed in reform.

"Thats a bit disingenuous."
Why? Disingenuous? You have me confused. Isn't TORT all about lowering the cap on all claims? If it is now all about medical claims then I apologise.
Worker goes to work, employer puts worker in areas that will kill him, worker refuses, is fired, cannot be fired because of family (healthcare provision) terrified to lose job, so agrees, gets crushed to death, insurance company says it will pay 10k while death by accident clause says 250k but worker agreed because of circumstances..........
Mother goes into hospital......has her leg cut off because she has acne.....max claim is because she is having baby....
THAT'S disingenuous.
TORT is all about insurance companies NOT paying out on legitimate claims.
Dems maybe trail lawyers, but if the national/federal law stipulated that companies cannot do such things because of health and safety laws you would not need laws restricting insurance claims in a court of law!
Post me a PM and I will show you how the evil EU laws have worked far better than US laws because they protect both employer and employee in these situations - without either having to go to law courts.

The legal system has caps on many things. Remember I said actual damages would not be affected. The cap will not be 250K... right now folks are getting hundreds of millions of dollars. Thus malpractice insurance is through the roof, this is passed on to those who wish to have insurance for their families. These excessive awards cause poor people to be unable to get Health Insurance because of the costs. You all care about poor folk from what I read... This is just one way to lower insurance costs and trial lawyers getting 40%. I believe in Legal reform first. Why should a lawyer get 40 million of a 100 million award? Who pays for the 40 million? Poor folks can't get health insurance.
I bleive in hitting malpractice hard like the next guy... but what is really happening is, to get a high settlement, folks out in claims for 250 Million they settle out of court because it would cost years of litigation for 25 million... The legal system is broken, there is not, "equal protection under the law" The poor guy does not get an OJ defense... You all believe in the constitution right?
Yo have to admit, these are valid points. But you are right as well, there is much more to do. I just believe we should start at the issue and chip away... meet somewhere in the middle. Comprehensive legislation in America is a joke. single issue clean bills is what America needs. Legislation everyone can understand (our founders in the Federalist said that)
My thing is we need to stop the crazy, fringe talk. We take the extremes on both sides of the Bell curve to demonize the other side. The extremes on the edges represent less than 10% of all Americans. Both sides play this game as a bargaining chip and it is getting old. Lets actually work together on this. I am growing weary of being called a right-wing Terrorist from the Left. I am sure you are tired of being called a socialist unpatriot.
I know your name is Cynic (I am as well) I have played the game in my former job, coached the game, and now watching the game. It is dirty no matter my station.

100% agree with you - but there is a problem there. Litigation, in medical terms is a boner for lawyers - and yet, I don't think of the lawyer at that point. I think of the victim of malpractice.
The reason for that is because - and here we go around the mulberry bush again, is that, in the US, you do not have universal coverage. If you did I would agree that there should be a cap - yet - what we do see is that there is a cap on the amount an insurance will pay either by treatment or life. If you need treatment that is going to cost 250 million dollars over a life time who is going to pay that sum?
If, on the other hand you had full coverage by all from young to old and each paid their percentage then that, too, can lead to costs coming down.
What many don't see is the hidden cost of healthcare - and, stupidly, say it is a matter that they do not want to pay for other (Americans) healthcare through their premiums. They do that anyway - how do people think that insurance companies actually pay the bills that come through the door?
But to the point - Dr's and insurance companies are adding some dues to premiums to cover litigation - yet that small amount will not, alone, bring down the overall cost of healthcare to cover all. It will help, without a doubt, but is not the magic bullet.

Oh and just so we get something straight... Republicans get much less money from the Insurance industry, banks, Lawyers, Hospitals, Pharma than Democrats... what do we have to gain?
at 04:46 on September 10th, 2009
Hi Cynic,
I have no stake in this bill but I do think that the Republicans were interested in limiting the amount of money one can receive under certain litigation. The obvious negligence had no limits. The lawyers supporting Obama are stridently against it, naturally.
at 22:37 on September 9th, 2009
Obama is a Liar!...and today, the federal government does in FACT...already pay for health care for illegal aliens in all federally supported hospitals and clinics. How do I know this? Because I work in a hospital...Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL has a budget of over 3 billion dollars of which, 70% of the budget, which is paid for by YOUR tax dollars, goes to treat illegal aliens, and aliens who fly into Miami for treatment, and then fly out again without paying a cent. And...illegal aliens get the very best health care the US can provide for them. FEMA camps...and Migrant Worker Camps...of which 90% are illegal aliens...have free health care clinics for illegal aliens. Where does Obama and his Chicago Thugs...and those masturbating media types get off lying to the American public, who have no way of finding out if Obama is telling the truth or not...unless others with experience use little blogs here and there to expose the truth? Everyone in this country HAS health care, just walk into any hospital, and by law you have to be treated...by the very same doctors as those who pay, with the same medical care. Every hospital in the US has a number of low-income, to no-income insurance companies anyone can sign up and join...and receive free, to near free health care based on a sliding scale fee. Why...one has to ask, is the media ignoring these facts? And in a neo-religious belief that Obama and the US govt is going to provide health care better is an outrageous joke...Look at all the other government projects that have failed, and failed, and failed...and now you want the govt to "fail" with our health care? You must be out of your minds. The stimulus bill failed, there are now more unemployed than ever; all the government interference in education has failed; medicaid and medicare have failed; social security has failed; bail outs of GMC and other car companies have failed; bail out of the banks and insurance companies have failed, the post office failed, and control of illegal aliens entering into this country has failed....the list is nearly endless of FAILED government programs....This is not about health care either, its about government control first of all...and secondly, its just an excuse for another tax bill to destroy this country economically under the Saul Alinsky/Cloward-Pivens strategy (taught by Obama to ACORN when he was a "communist" organizer)...so that the American people will be forced into draconian socialism. Why would anyone want to be "forced" into socialism through government engineered poverty? Socialism works...until it runs out of other people's money (Margaret Thatcher)....And if capitalism and democracy are so awful...then how come millions of foreigners enter into the US to live here any way they can? Today, 1 out of 6 Mexican nationals live in the US...more than 8 million Moslems live in the US...and you Left Wing Bozos...want to destroy the US? You people are insane, and Obama IS a LIAR. Good for Joe Wilson...he may have apologized for saying the word "liar"...but, he did not apologize for meaning in fact, that Obama IS a Liar.

The problem is not "government". The problem is the selfish attitudes of so many Americans, whether in government or in the private sector. Our country is going down the tubes because so many people are so self-serving. It's not a problem caused by Democratics or Republicans. And you're calling someone a Left Wing Bozo? Look in the mirror; you're the extremist. So much of what you speak is the result of bi-partisan legislation, not just some left wing bozos.
at 00:10 on September 12th, 2009
And you're calling someone a Left Wing Bozo? Look in the mirror; you're the extremist. So much of what you speak is the result of bi-partisan legislation, not just some left wing bozos. 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 I like this : someone please explain the difference between Extermist and Patriot? See history called the people in america extremists too and England wanted to tag that on the Americans.. I will say .. England was too bi-partisan before the people became extremists and created America. Well .. I am American not a socialist pig like OBAMA .. I bet the jews can relate .. they had a socalist pig called hitler. We have Obama .. I guess i am extremist because i will die for what our ancentors died for. I make a bet if this socailist gov dont change there will be a war.

***THANK YOU, JUDY !!!!!!!!!!!! *** I am soooo sick of the "Left Wing Bozos" posting sooo much crap on blogs and facebook......and not enough intelligent people posting anything!!! at 10:08 on September 10th, 2009
Believe me there are fringe elements. Your skewing to the right. How about just say you are tied of the democrats. I am not sure that you convince anyone on the left that the right has ideas by name calling.
at 14:19 on September 10th, 2009
Give Joe the Metal of Freedom, and Move On... Had the Guts to speek out, and thats enough.
at 14:29 on September 10th, 2009
The medal of freedom is a civilian award given by the president. It is the civilian equivalent of the Medal of Honor. The man sans civility does not and will not ever do something worthy of it.
at 00:05 on September 11th, 2009
Go Judy!!! I wish everyone in the nation could read your comment, even if they won't believe it.
at 15:38 on September 11th, 2009
I didnt read all of your incoherent rant which apparently includes far out references to Margaret Thatcher, Saul Alinsky and auto companies (none of which has anything to do with HC 3400).
As millions of Americans clearly understood, Obama was telling the truth about the Democratic Plan, it does not include health care for illegal immigrants:
Sec. 246. No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
at 18:36 on September 9th, 2009
This is the mentality of the Republican Party. I saw the uproar. Anyone that would do this in front of the President of The United States needs to be committed for long term mental care
at 18:53 on September 9th, 2009
Censure Rep. Joe Wilson (R-South Carolina) under Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution.
at 21:02 on September 9th, 2009
Oh c'mon you won't even take action against Jefferson who has ben indicted for Bribery with 10 of thansands of dollars in his congressional office or Charlie Rangel who lied to the IRS by some 600K dollars and you want to censure Wilson for yelling, "it's a lie?".
at 21:33 on September 9th, 2009
Just pointing out that something could be done under the current form of the US constitution.
Should it be? Well, no. The man has apologised so that should be it. But I can see where that part of Obama's speech will be played again and again on both sides. Wilson made a mistake and in doing so has hurt the GOP. The media wanted that moment - and, as you can see, they got it.
He helped more than hindered, but this will be played out over the next few days.
at 10:03 on September 10th, 2009
I actually Know Cong Wilson.. I figured he would apologize, I have NEVER seen him be less than and adult. I live in his district in Columbia, SC. When I first heard the shout, I thought, well there is a first term congressman. I saw the President accept his apology today. Lets all move on and get to work on a good bill.
I Tweeted that it was going to be all over the news. I know how the monster works. Like after the GOP response Keith O. of MSNBC said the former was presented from a man who has been sued for malpractice 3 times and is a birther. Than no more comment on the GOP response. The news folks (commentators) have picked their sides. BTW O. did not say the Doctor was guilty of Malpractice... just that he was sued. Anyone who has been in health care will be sued..
You know Cynic, I just want some real "Change" in DC. This two party system is in dead lock... sure wish we had something like in other countries with mutiple parties
at 13:54 on September 10th, 2009
He was told to apologize by the GOP leadership.
at 13:23 on September 10th, 2009
He yelled "You Lie!" Much different to attack the man than his ideals.
at 04:48 on September 10th, 2009
Again, please do not forget the Democrat's booing Bush in 2005 during his speech. I am amazed at the amnesia supporters of Obama care to live with.
at 15:40 on September 11th, 2009
Democrats certainly recall that, which occured after Bush LIED to the world about WMD in Iraq, invaded Iraq and killed 500K iraqis.
You kill half a million people, you get booed.

Now Now. You can't have it both ways. Decorum is decorum. Regardless which dimwit is in charge.
