Rep. Paul Broun Calls Global Warming a “Hoax”, GOP applauds

During the floor debate this morning over the historic American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) received a round of applause from GOP colleagues when he claimed that man-made global warming is a “hoax” with “no scientific consensus.” Broun, citing misleading statistics, also claimed that the bill would hurt the poor and “kill jobs:”
BROUN: Scientists all over this world say that the idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus. … And who’s going to be hurt most [by ACES] the poor, the people on limited income…the people who can least afford to have their energy taxes raised by MIT says $3100 per family. … This bill must be defeated. We need to be good stewards of our environment, but this is not it, it’s a hoax! …
Broun’s hoax claims aside, Broun’s $3,100 talking point is contradicted by the Congressional Budget Office, which found that that the average cost of the legislation would be only 48-cents a day, the price of a postage stamp, and that “households in the lowest income quintile would see an average net benefit of about $40 in 2020.” A report by the Center for American Progress and the University of Massachusetts also found that the bill would create 1.7 billion new jobs, including 59,000 new jobs in Broun’s homestate of Georgia.

This man is like an ostrich and the GOP is just not worthy of the public's attention. They and he are a joke. Look at the pollution and our dwindling clean water supply. See the shelves of Antarctica fall into the ocean and the poor polar bears drowning for lack of ice upon which to climb and rest.
They aren't about solutions but all for throwing dirt into the lens of the camera in a weak attempt to divert their waning public.
One day when it is too late they will be too ashamed to gaze at their own reflection. We need answers and our country to go forward in producing results to save our planet and all of her inhabitants.

Considering that "ignorance is this country's most expensive commodity", Theresa111 is worth at least a million bucks!! What she says is demonstrably false; I know because I can read a scientific paper and actually look at real data. AGW is not science, it is POLICY, and it is, most certainly a hoax! As of beginning of June, 2009, satellite data shows the global temp to be .04C above normal. WHEW, that;s hot! Oh, global sea ice cover is above normal, (U. Ill) arctic ice cover, near normal (NSIDC). Cooling of global temps since 2002. Its all there for anyone to read, but listening to al-Gore is soo much more satisfying; it requires no work or thought. Times and data have changed! 2007 saw the greatest yearly drop in temps on record. It hasn't warmed back up. Opps, I forget, global warming causes global cooling. Pope Innocent VIII said it all when he decreed in the 1400's that the then disasterous cooling climate change was "caused by witches". We've come far!

theresa.why dont you actually spend some time looking at the evidence. the antarctic is expanding.you talk about pollution.co2 is not pollution it is invisible tasteless and harmless.the arctic ice is back to normal levels and polar bear numbers have jumped in the last 50 years.get off your backside and check out the facts

The Antarctic is NOT expanding, Arctic sea ice coverage is NOT increasing. James, you cannot determine global trends by looking at less than a decade of temperature record. Basically, all of your comments display emphatically that you have not the faintest idea of what you're talking about.
And James, you say you can read a scientific paper, I challenge you to do so, because your comments show dramatically that, whilst you may be able to read, you cannot read a scientific paper.
Broun is a first class idiot, a moron. He is immoral and a liar (as his statements to the house clearly show). He should not be allowed to hold a position with more responsibility than a greeter at Walmart. How he ever reached the position he holds today, I will never know.

To Theresa, Adrian, and Sanford:
May Grandmother used to say, "You've made your bed, now lie in it." What she meant was that you've made this mess, now deal with it. Since none of you refuse to believe that you're being lied to by people who stand to make MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars by promoting global warming, then I hope you will be happy paying double for your electricity, gasoline, not to mention all of the goods you buy that are shipped by truck.

Greenland used to be green with trees and farming before it was totally covered in ice -archaeology proves this - Temperature changes are the results of natural cycles. C02 is naturally occurring.
