Talk about a hectic first day of operations; the newly opened JetBlue terminal at JFK International Airport was shut down, Monday, after a pair of paperweight replicas of WWII grenades were found in a passenger's checked luggage.
The paperweights caused a security alert that shut down the JetBlue terminal for 30 minutes. Security at JFK has been tightened this week due to the expected arrival of various world leaders for the UN General Assemby meeting.
Officials, on high alert for the arrival of world leaders to the UN General Assembly, closed the JetBlue terminal for 30 minutes.
"There were suspicious items found that resembled grenades in a passenger's checked-in luggage. We were able to confirm that they were World War II replica paperweights," a JetBlue spokeswoman said.
The incident occurred on the first day of operation for low cost carrier JetBlue's new home at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Tina Kells, I like this story. It's good stuff. Many folks have those paper weights. Many of them are on a wood board that says, " customer service, please take a number", the number is attached to the ring on the grenade. Not sure why an entire terminal would be shut down, when a quick view of the item shows they are not fused or usable.
The guilty party may think about using UPS for now on to transport thier fake items.

Tina I have a feeling that you all have created an atmosphere of the "good ole boy/girl network" You pat each other on the back and pump each other up. But you NEVER give us any recourse when you are quick to mark some other story as needs improvement with NO real interest in removing it as you then go on to something else of interest. This smacks of non-public not now public. If this is your playground then let us know and we will move on to other places that appreciate our original stories and podcasts.
