A report released on Wednesday by a leading human rights body claimed Velupillai Prabhakaran was tortured by the Sri Lankan military before being killed.
New Delhi, June 10 (IANS) Tamil Tigers leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was tortured by the Sri Lankan military before being killed, a leading human rights body said in a report released Wednesday.
The UTHR said military sources confirmed that the LTTE leader was tortured in the presence of "a Tamil government politician and a general which took place probably at the headquarters of the army's 53 Division.
The University Teachers for Human Rights (UTHR) quoted high-level military sources as saying that Prabhakaran was tortured in the presence of "a Tamil government politician and a general".
The torture, it said, took place probably at the headquarters of the army's 53 Division, which battled the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) before crushing it last month.
Prabhakaran's son is claimed to have been killed in front of his father. But the several army sources said that this information is correct unless officers at the highest level are fibbing to one another.
'Several army sources have said that Prabhakaran's (younger) 12-year-old son Balachandran was killed after capture. Our (sources) said that he was killed in front of his father,' said UTHR, which has always been critical of excesses both by the military and the LTTE.
'These sources added that this information is correct unless officers at the highest level are fibbing to one another.
UTHR quoted a brigadier of the Sri Lanka military as saying that "We had to look for Prabhakaran's body because the world was interested in seeing it. But the body of his wife is not of any importance to us."
UTHR pointed out that the government was evasive about the fate of Prabhakaran's wife Mathivathani.

what worries me about such reports, the report has all the traits of being propaganda and one beautiful additive that's been used many times before to make propaganda look like its true

A story without foundation no proof of source, I don't trust the Sri Lankan Government as it issues propaganda and here we have a chestnut of propaganda from those opposing the government.
Personally all I would like to see is an independent inquiry carried out by UN to dig out the real truth.

If there was an independent inquiry done by the UN, I wonder if they would be capable of exposing the truth Babel-Fish.
As for the propaganda, it's not only from those who oppose the Sri Lanka government but also by those who try their best to shield the truth about what is happening to the Tamil civilians in the IDP camps. Just like you, I don't trust the Sri lanka government either.
There have been so many stories claiming Prabhakaran is dead and two separate ones on how he died. Then you have the LTTE spokesman announcing that the LTTE leader is alive and well, and sometime later confirming he is dead. There is something very fishy going on. As for the Sri Lanka government, I don't understand is why they never allowed any independent parties from the international community such as a medical team to see Prabhakaran's body and do the necessarry medical tests to confirm whether it really was him.

Indeed, the way VP died is very fishy.
From the joyful manner of MR when he landed at the airport, to premature announcement of VP's death on 18th to his photos shown in clean uniform on the 19th is very suspicious. No two stories by the govt. itself checks with each other.
But probably the SLA, the GOSL who killed him are convinced so "do the necessarry medical tests to confirm..." may not be important to them.
At this point what is important to most of us is to see what the furture holds for us in SL, to secure MR in power to give him a chance to 'walk the talk'
Knowing how an ASSASIN got assasinated, the assasin who assasinated unarmed Tamil people in SL since 1973, the international terriorist who brought disrepute to the nonviolent Tamil race world over, should not be of importance to anyone.

So now the Sri Lankan medical fraternity is in doubt, is it? I wonder how an international medical team would have done any differently to Sri Lankan medics.
Still slave to colonial rule and subjugation. Anything foreign is gospel, even in the outbacks of Sri Lanka.

VP may have not been exempted from this Universal phenomenon.
But if this entire story is true, there is some discremination here. The Sinhala monster Rohana Wijeweera's family is still living and the Tamil monster VP's family is dead !!!

Btw, the tone of your comment suggests you belong to the 'minority' MR mentioned about in his speech, who's responsible for the present -though faint- disharmony between Tamils and Sinhalese in SL.

Nothing to worry about thoes news, the truth is VP got killed. We need not to care about this Dead sun goat but about the Civilians who could managed to rescue their lives and the future of these civilians, offcourse the future of sri lanka too.

Nonsense and rubbish, there is no single evidence that they really killed prabakharan except some vague video footage and photo's where he appears much younger than he was in reality. If they really had captured him why burry the evidence so quickly? Why denying independent media and journalists from the killingfields still? Why keeping doctors who are important eyewitnesses into the Sri Lankan Army massacre of tamil civilians targetting hospitals and places where these people had to wash and get drinking water?a lot of horror stories are coming into the light despite sinhalese propaganda and lies! by the way: Sri Lanka Government is still supporting terrorists like karuna and devananda

The reason Watcher of the Skez is because the Sri lankan government does not want the truth to be known. That is why they have produced some vague footage and photo's of the LTTE leader, denied independent media and journalists from reporting and have done what they have to those doctors.
And yes, Karuna and Devananda are terrorists and someday I think we will all be able to witness the atrocities that they both are capable of with the powers they have attained under Mahinda Rajapakse's regime.

If (or since) Karuna and Devananda are terrrorists, it invariably implies that Piraba is a terrorist too.
I am glad he did not give up his dream as Lalith suggests, so the world is finally free from that criminal today !!
Had not, it would be just a matter of time he would come up with another crafty deception that will tarnish the credibility and honour of Tamils further. Given some more time to VP, the world would have completly lost their ability to differentiate LTTE and the average Tamil as two entities.
