Republic Day celebrated with fervour in Mussoorie
MUSSOOORIE, 27 Jan: The 61st Republic Day was celebrated with fervour and gaiety in here. The Tricolour was hoisted at various government and non-government institutions early in the morning. School children also presented various cultural and patriotic programmes on the occasion.
The flag was hoisted at Landour Chowk by Chief Guest, Mussoorie MLA Jot Singh Gunsola. At a joint function of the Senior Citizens’ Forum and the Nagar Palika, 17 senior citizens were also felicitated along with police station Incharge and MC Joshi and Fire Officer BR Ghildyal.
The others to be felicitated were Dr Haridutt Bhatt ‘Shailesh’, song and dance composer Chandralekha Tripathi, touch therapy expert Dr Mulk Raj Das, Haji Saidullah, Dev Raj Kapoor, Sujan Singh, Shaukat Hussain, Maya Ram Semwal and Devi Dayal Goel, Ratan Lal, Ruskin Bond, Khushal Singh Ranavat, Sandeep Singh, etc.
Ruskin Bond who was not present to receive the citation and award, in his letter to the Senior Citizens’ Forum President RS Mishra said that he was immensely honoured to receive the award and had enjoyed being a part of the senior citizens in their Gandhigiri a few months ago.
Several other representatives of various social organisation also participated in the ceremony and presented their views.
Jot Singh Gunsola and OP Uniyal said on the occasion that it was the day to remember all those who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country. Tehri Lok Sabha BSP President Sunil Sonkar said that it was the day to remember Dr BR Ambedkar, architect of the Constitution of India. The programme was coordinated by Javed Khan and RS Mishra, jointly.
Former Palika President Manmohan Singh Mall, Mussoorie Congress President Bhagwan Singh Dhanai, Mussoorie BJP President Roop Singh Kathait also addressed the gathering.
Harish Kalra, Palika members Ramesh Bhandari, Virendar Rawat, Jai Kumar, Shushil Aggarwal, Nand Lal, Kanta Bisht, Subhasini Bhartwal, Jasvir Kaur, Rajwant Rawat, Dinesh Badoni and others were also present on the occasio
