Out House

The top two leaders of the Republican-led House of Representatives spent much of last year feuding between them. That is John Boehner and Eric Cantor fought over degrees of conservatism. As a result, the Nation’s business didn’t get done.

In recent days we learned about Republican Congressmen and Democrats who had conflicts of interest as insider trading and many used earmarks to fund their personal investments and that of their families. Most on the list of corrupt Congressmen are Republicans.

Now, the race for president turns once again to ideology and what some pundits call culture.

Let’s not downgrade the meaning of “culture.” Financial conservatism is a characteristic but I don’t see that as culture. Religious evangelism is a phenomenon, a consequence of a lack of education and intellectual development so it is the antithesis of intellectual achievement.

Bigotry and racism and whatever else is in the Republican bucket isn’t something palatable for an advancing nation. Please, empty the bucket out back in that little shack with the moon on the door.
