Republican Senators vote against rights for the Disabled
38 Republican Senators voted against the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The no votes included Wisconsin's own U.S. Senator Ron Johnson. Less than 1/4 of Republican Senators voted for the Convention, even though retired Republican Senator Bob Dole and current Republican Senator John McCain campaigned for its' passage. Both were war heroes who suffered lifelong physical injuries in war.
But most other Republicans in the Senate were more concerned about hating and detesting the United Nations, than ensuring that the U.S. be a force for good in ensuring that the disabled throughout the world are treated with respect and equality. I shouldn't be that shocked, because many Republicans seem to have the same disdain with a bunch of groups: gays, Muslims, atheists, women, etc.
