Republican tells women that being battered isn't that bad
Republicans and non-libertarian conservatives often don't like the fact that people can divorce. Some on the far religious rightwing, want to restrict the ability to divorce as much as possible, even ban it. If women are abused and battered, well, to them that is not as important as ensuring that nobody gets divorced. Indeed, they have even opposed efforts to allow divorce of the occasionally gay or lesbian couple, married in a state with marriage equality; who wish to divorce in a state that doesn't affirm to them those same rights of marriage.
So, it shouldn't be too shocking to learn that Wisconsin Republican state assemblyman Don Pridemore stated about women in abusive relationships who are thinking about getting a divorce, "If they can refind those reasons and get back to why they got married in the first place it might help." Yes, they should remember all the good times before they were used as a human punching bag.
Oh by the way, in a different story but one I had to report on, a gang of well armed alcohol bootleggers in the nation of India, kidnapped two rivals of another gang. They ended up torturing, raping and than burying them alive. Indeed, alcohol poisoning is a big problem in the Indian state of Gujarat, the only state in India where there is a prohibition on alcohol. In 2009 more than 100 people died and 200 people had to be hospitalized after drinking the poison that these criminals were calling alcohol.
Of course this just illustrates whenever you make something illegal, that doesn't take away from its' demand. The reason we see violence associated with drugs, is not as some believe the drugs themselves, but the prohibitions on it. Lealize marijuana, legalize and regulate harder drugs and legalize and regulate prostitution. The National Organization for Marijuana Laws is an organization you can join, if you so desire, to fight the absurd prohibitions on marijuana.
