Templehof airport was never finished. Unfortunately, WW2 came and the construction on this highly art deco building was halted.
After WW2, the Americans took over. In the plans originally there was to be a beautiful restaurant to seat 2000 people, and a roof garden restaurant that was above it to seat a few hundred. With the American Occupation, over 800 soldiers were stationed at the now "templehof airbase". They enclosed the garden and completed the restaurant - making it into a basketball court, bar/pool hall and offices for the CIA to conduct their operations.
