The first trends are coming out and Narendra Modi will stop short of the 117 seats that BJP won in the last assembly election. Out of the 180 seats that went to vote in Gujarat BJP is leading in 111 seats, Congress is leading in 67 and others in 4. As the elections are help using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) the results should come out very fast. Looks like a win for Narendra Modi but not a huge victory that everyone was expecting.

Gujarat usually votes differently in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections so this is definately a good news for congress with its eye on 2014 General Elections.

Counting of votes has started in the West Indian State of Gujarat where incumbent Chief Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is expected to win a third term in office. This is a crucial election as a win for Narendra Modi will elevate his position in the party and will move to being the top contenders for BJP candidate for the post of Prime Minister in the 2014 elections.

Counting of votes has started at 8 AM IST and the first results are expected to be out by 9 AM. The exit polls have predicted a majority for BJP lead by Narendra Modi.
