NP Rank:
Reward Doubles for Wild Horse Killers -- Alberta
Someone has been killing wild horses in Alberta. The latest slaughter brought together concerned groups to offer a reward of $20 000 for someone to provide information about this crime. These slaughtered horses were found about 30 km west of the small town of Sundre. It appears that a small family group was killed consisting of a stallion, a yearling and a pregnant mare who gave birth after being shot. This brings the number of unsolved kills in the area to 20.
The Wild Horses of Alberta Society, Innisfail Truck Field and Alberta Equestrian Foundation have all pitched in for the now $20,000 reward, hoping someone will provide information on who shot and killed three equines, including a pregnant mare.

As a horselover all i can say those are some sick puppies. Observing wild horses interact is a sight to behold. This is one time I might even grow warm to vigilante justice. Can you imagine someone killing a pregnant mare. The gestation period is 11 months and she was probably nearing delivery.

People are so sick - why on earth would someone want to do this. I hope they catch these people and do something to them I'd rather not mention in public..

Police and wildlife officials are investigating the fatal shooting of three wild horses, including a pregnant mare, near Sundre, northwest of Calgary.
The animals were found Tuesday night near the Mountain Aire Lodge motel and campground west of the town, about 500 metres from a mountainside road, the RCMP said Wednesday.
It appears the horses were shot from the road late in the afternoon, police said. Evidence at the scene indicates that the mare went into labour after she was shot, said Bob Henderson, president of the Wild Horses of Alberta Society.
"For the first time in a long time, I actually cried this morning. It hurts your heart when you watch them out there, the way that they are and live out there. They're such a beautiful, magnificent animal, and to see this needless, senseless act just sickens the heart," said Henderson, who visited the scene on Wednesday.
The pregnant mare looked ready to foal within a day or two, Henderson said. A stud, about two to three years old, and a yearling colt were also found dead.
"He suffered a long, agonizing death by the look of the scene," Henderson said of the stud, who was found dead on his back with his legs in the air, tangled in some trees.

This is very sad indeed. I hope the reward will help catch the perpetrators.

This is an important story to tell. It shows us how sick our world sometimes can be. Who would do that to innocent animals.

We got a lot of those braggards in Alberta. So I think you.re right Rene. We had kids shooting Domestic horses from the highway a couple of years back and that.s how they caught them.

Whoever did it should be locked up in jail for good.
