The Washington State Government signed into law SB 5688, which would allow the same rights to same-sex couples. The "everything but marriage" act was suppose to take effect in July, but because of people who hate people for being different, there will most likely be a referendum (referendum 71) on the new law in November.

SB 5688 - 2009-10   (What is this?)

Expanding the rights and responsibilities of state registered domestic partners.

Anti-discrimination groups are trying to publicize the names on the petition to get referndum 71 on the November ballot.

This is addressed to those who consider themselves to be homosexual or bi-sexual.I am a Christian, and I am an American.  I believe that everyone has a right to make their own decisions, and I would have loved to be able to get behind this bill, even though I don't really believe in homosexual marriage.  I would have liked to be able to support the bill out of a sense of fairness. However, I didn't feel free to do so because in other places where laws like this have been passed it has now become a hate crime to teach certain portions of the Bible.  Pastors in Canada, Germany, and Sweden have gone to jail for teaching passages of the Bible that disagree with homosexuality.  There may be others I don't know about.I have NO desire to take anyone's rights away, but I also do not want to see my own rights taken away.  Those who don't believe the Bible, or who don't believe certain parts of it, have every right to hold those beliefs and act on them.  In this country, you should have every right to live with whom you wish, to fall in love with whomever you will, to pursue happiness on your terms.  I really don't want to see those rights denied.  I have no wish to see you harassed or abused for your sexuality. However, I would ask that you also respect my right to believe the Bible as the word of God.  I would ask that you respect my Pastor's right to teach the entire Bible, including those parts you would prefer not hear, you don't have to listen to him, you are free to go to a church or religious organization that supports your views.  I ask that you would respect my right to teach my children of their faith, to teach them the Bible without apology.I have no problem with you.  I do not hate you.  I do not wish you any harm.  I truly wish we, as Americans, could have a calm discussion of this, and find a way to protect the rights of all people, regardless of their sexuality, but also regardless of their religion.
