Two Buildings Collapsed in Rio Leaving at Least Three People Dead. Here Are Rio Building Collapse Photos and Video

Two buildings collapsed in downtown Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

A local news service claimed that three bodies had been found in the rubble of the collapsed buildings. It is believed that more than 20 people may still by trapped in the debris.

Witnesses claim a large explosion was heard prior to the Rio building collapse. Electricity was cut off from the area after the smell of gas was detected.

An exact cause for the building collapse has yet to be determined.

For some, the Rio building collapse raises a red flag about the city's infrastructure and whether Brazil's second-largest city is ready to host the World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016.
