The Rise Again: The Coming Civil War in the United States.
(Update: At the left leaning Dailykos.com site at 9:00 AM, 17, April, 33 Percent of 274 respondents to a poll believe there WILL be another Civil war. If anyone knows where a poll can be conducted on a right leaning site, please notify this writer.)
About 17 years ago I wrote a novel called "The Rise Again," about the beginning of a new Civil War in the United States.
I shelved it and forgot about it, because it was very short. Too short to publish. The problem was that I got to a point where the war was beginning... but I couldn't see how it would proceed. So I just stopped completely, after about 70 pages.
Now... the rest of the Story is being written for me.
Last night, The Governor of Texas declared that Texas has the right to secede.
The gentleman (I resisted the urge here unsuccessfully it seems now, to call him an idiot) is not only just playing with fire... he is courting national disaster.
When the story first broke on drudgreport.com is was not a story from a national news source, but just from a person. I remember this because the person said in the "tip" that he had to put in comments to his "tip" manually, so there wouldn't be any right then, because... he was eating supper.
The reason I tell you this now, is because if you go to the drudgereport.com link now, it goes to a different "source" than it did before. And this new "source" leaves out significant information that the old one included. Including legal references to why the Texas Governor is wrong. That his state does NOT have the right to secede.
I believe the old legal references were not left out accidently. I believe it gave readers more information than drudge and Rick Perry might want their followers to know.
Right now millions of "American Idol" watchers are saying, "Well, duh... Rick Perry says we can do it if we want to. Hell, Let's do it!"
The lead up time to the first Civil war was several years, due to horse and buggy communications.
Now "leaders" can use Twitter to send out messages instantly to millions of people at a time.
The Coming Civil War will not take years of lead up time to come to "fruition."
The break down of this country could realistically happen in a matter of months.
Am I the only person predicting this?
No, I am not. I believe there is a Russian Politician or Scientist who has been predicting the break up of "America" for several years now - saying that Texas would be one of the new nations to come from such an occurence.
Do you believe it could not happen?
Did you also believe the breakup of the Soviet Union was impossible?
I know I did. And I was wrong.
Do you remember that their entire nation was held together at gunpoint and tankpoint by fear?
And it broke up anyway... with surprisingly little violence.
I am very afraid that the Coming "Rise Again" in our own land will not be so free of violence.
We are a nation of gun owners with more and more being sold every day amid the poor economic situation... and a denied undercurrent of racial hatred.
How did Governor Rick Perry of Texas help this already bad situation, with his pronouncement?
He didn't. Not at all.
This is NOT over, folks.
Write me nasty comments, that this could not happen here, that there couldn't possibly be another Civil War in the United States... and that I am crazy for thinking so. Do and say whatever you want.
Then keep your television turned on... to see the slow craziness suddenly snowball into right wing open rebellion.
And I can tell you of a certainty how the whole thing will end, or at least part of it.
There will be blood.
A lot of it.
More than you ever dreamed of.
We have watched tv for years seeing bloodshed and people dying all over the world... except here.
But now it's almost our turn.
Because we have become immune to the realiy of slaughter. It doesn't mean anything to us. We haven't experienced it here.
Yet.
Before the end of the last Presidential election, John McCain had to tone down his rhetoric, because the crowds were becoming too rebellious.
Who is going to calm down the crowds Rick Perry is stirring up? Certainly not Rick Perry himself. Because...
Drudgereport.com had another story last night, right after the Texas Can Secede one.
The title of that story was I believe "Rick Perry's Star is Rising."
At what cost in lives will the rising of Rick Perry cost our Country?
Our first civil war cost I don't know how many hundreds of thousands of soldier's lives, and millions wounded, and the South destroyed.
But that is just a memory. The blood and the tragedy isn't real to us.
It appears that we will have to live through it again before we ourselves will realize and believe and know that
War IS hell.
I hope I am wrong.
And that Governor Rick Perry and his new followers will back away from "the brink."
But when the citizens are cheering you...
It is hard to get your ego in check and do what is right for the nation.
The Republicans lost the Presidential election,
but they are unwilling to acccept that.
The tea parties are mostly made of members of that group.
To say otherwise is just deception.
I urge them to do what people who - like me - hated Bush for eight years did:
Respect the rule of law...
and respect the new President's decisions...
even if you hate him and them.
And before you join the bandwagon and call out for
your state to be "free" of the Union...
And prepare yourselves to take up arms against your neighbors...
Make sure you know what the hell you are about to do...
And what it could cost.

StandUpToRacism, you are absolutely right. I have been predicting this since the disintegration of Soviet Union had started way back in 1980s. You said that now it is matter of months, however, even if it is delayed it would take a couple of years at the most.

What do you think about this issue. http://my.nowpublic.com/world/when-johnny-comes-marching-home-be-your-guard

My father was in three wars and came home "normal." He was a peace loving man when he went in, and when he came out he was the same. My opinion is that whatever problems a man takes into the service, will be strengthened by that experience. If he is a racist going in, he will be more so coming out. That being said, I believe there are a lot of racists going into the army... and that their problems will be compounded upon returning to a peaceful society. But the real problem, is in the leaders complacent citizens allow to rise in government. People like Gov. Perry of Texas,- a lawyer who doesn't know the law - who doesn't realize the secession question was resolved in 1865, And who in their ignorance, would resurrect that question anew.

I think when people lose money and their jobs and they feel desperate, anything can happen, including a civil war.

Your joking of course. lol

When people lose everything, they lose it. Gereld Celente, the trends forecaster, predicted this and he sees it unfolding in the latter half of 2009. The commercial real estate bust is soon to go into hyperdrive, and will be much bigger than the home bubble bust.

I think what will cause a civil war is when the government pretends to not notice what is going on with the people. For example, the Tea Parties; quite a few of them occurred yesterday with minimal exposure to mainstream media and response from the government. The campaign made it quite clear that they were not about President Obama, but about out of control government which started with George Bush.
If what you say is true, Will, then perhaps you should have joined in with the party, unless you only hated the MAN George Bush, and not the government he allowed to grow and begin taking from the people.
I do not advocate secession, but I do believe in the Constitution and the right of the people to remove their representatives when they are not listening to them. Being elected to office gives no person the right to pursue their own agenda.

I think you have hit the nail exactly on the head here, Justin. I suppose the real issue is the total obscuring of the news in the country. With all the spin out there is difficult to tell the absolute truth of some of the issues.
The idea that the politicians were largely absent from many of the tea parties shows the depth of the problem. I heard one of the representatives said they couldn't come to it because it was anti government. What?? Since when shouldn't an elected official show to any occasion that involves a group of his or her constituents? That is exactly where they should be, obtaining all the viewpoints on a personal level. We are not talking Hollywood here, we are talking about reality, in today's world.
In summary, keep on writing your opinions here and elsewhere, Justin. We all need you and others to keep using the alphabet and the First Amendment with great gusto! Use it or lose it applies to more than just our brain power.

I hate to tell you, sir, but you are wrong.
Texas is simply reminding the US government that there is something called the "Constitution" that they (the US gov.) had apparently forgotten about.
He (Rick Perry) is simply reminding them (US gov.) about the 10th amendment, which generally says that if something is not in the constitution, it is up to the states to decide on the issue.
IF there is ever a civil war, it will be between those who oppose such people as Rick Perry, who are defending the constitution, and the "rebels" who want to destroy America's constitution.
And this isn't about Republican VS Democrat, because there are members of both parties who try to destroy the constitution (America), while others are defending it (America).
Basically, if you don't defend Rick Perry's right to enforce the constitution, you are on the rebel-side. Sorry, but it's true.

I love my country, I love our freedoms. This isn't about one side winning and another being a sore losser. This is about the same reasons why the first civil war happened, powers the federal government does not have over state. The problems were never settled then, we just put the issues off until now. People will argue that the civil war was about slavery, and that was a part of it, but a small part. It was about the 10th Amendment then, it's about the 10th Amendment now. Why is it that the left demands everyone to respect the differents of other people, but refuses to do the same of those in the south of its own country. Calling people from the south gun loving, war loving nuts isn't going to change anyones mind. I don't agree with anything the people of NY have done with there state or its laws. Do I care, no, it's there state. If they want to live that way, it's there business. Why then can't they pay me and my state the same respect. Instead they spend money trying rig the election of my state governors race to get someone elected they like. Why, because they don't like my state laws, they want us to be just like them. If I wanted to live just like them I would live in NY, I don't, that why I leave where I do. All I hear is how we as a country need to accept and understand other countries and there cultures. Why can't we do that for the south or midwest, no we're backward people who need to be shown the light. We're so dumb, we're still paying a $1.25 for a cup of coffee at the 7-11 instead of $5.00 at Starbucks like smart people. If the federal government could read and understand its role under the Constitution then there would be no issues. 80% of those I have arrest are from other states, and they always say the same thing; that's not illegal in my state. That's the problem, people don't understand that the different laws in each state show how the people of that state want to live, respect that.

I agree with Tito Quintana, Bettermakings, and jholl. Its not about racism but its about our constitutional rights and that the government telling us which freedoms we can and cannot have. Thats what the first civil war was about, not so much slavery but the government telling us (the south) what we can and cannot do. It should be left up to the state that you live in to make that decision based upon what the public votes for. When the next civil war starts and thats not if but when it starts it will not be about racism but about the people standing up against the government and taking back their constitutional rights. A civil war is coming and its getting closer, maybe not this year or the next but it is coming and people are getting prepared for it. Weapons and ammuntion are selling at record numbers, so much that the gun shops cant keep anything on the shelves. I live in the south and I'm seeing first hand a change in the people. WE are tired of being railroaded by our government and also for being taxed for everything under the sun. It will not be about rebulicans against demorcrats but people with morals standing up for their morals and their rights. WE are sick and tired of being considered outsiders because of our Christan beliefs. The immorals of this county is going to be the ultimate down fall of this country.

The military industrial complex is larger and more in control of things than any one person claiming the right of succession.
If you guys want to worry about something, worry about the military industrial complex. They are the entities producing the weapons and ammo you people claim to be selling like hot cakes. These are the entities that produce bombs, jets, tanks, jeeps, UAV's, helicopters, artillery shells, smart weapons, etc, etc.
These are the entities that get people elected, that start wars, that send "peacekeepers" to out of control middle eastern and african regions.
We all need to sit back and learn a little from history; if a civil war starts, it is because the military industrial complex wanted it to. They own our country now, and they will own any individual break off states that choose to defect, or succeed. They have started every war since WW2, and will continue to do so as long as we look at our military budget as a never ending gobstopper.

I agree that there will be a civil war, I've been prediciting this for months now. I do disagree that you seem to think that republicans are the cause. The unbelievable expansion of government is the cause. The same cause of our first civil war. And I promise you, that if Texas or any other states decide to seceede, and a war breaks out, I will take up arms and defend those states against an oppressive government.Thomas Jefferson said, " The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is near. As far as your comments about tea parties, people aren't just fed up with democrats, they are fed up with republicans as well. Bush is the one that started this expansion of government and this idiot we elected has really taken it to a new level. One thing I am really getting sick of, is getting labled a racist because I disagree with our moron president. The reason I dont like him has nothing to do with the color of his skin......I don't like him because his policies are going to get people killed. And if and when I have to take up arms, I know exactly what the price will be.....freedom isn't free. If civil war breaks out, it will be to regain our freedom.

WE fought sixty years against Communism. In the words of Kruschev: You have fought against Communism and against us the Soviets and our allies. You will become the very thing you fight. ( socialists )!!!! How can Americans think obama is going to save this nation, Little hint HE'S NOT. How can he? You can't blame one party of the other, they are both corrupt and evil, they want power. Obama has consalidated more power than any President ever has, He bypasses the Constitution of the United States of America. The Government doesn't care about us, you Americans think that were safe, were fine living here in the states, war will never come here, i'm fine. Guess what your not. You must choose in this coming war, who will you fight for, the government who wants to be socialists or the People ( which by the Way is to be the Government, "The Government is to be for the people, of the people, and by the people". Abraham Lincoln.). you are and have never been safer than any other nation on earth. My favorite quote is from our first President of the United States of America when he was our first General. " The thing about American Christians that is different from all other christians is we would rather die standing on our feet, than to be kneeling to the enemy". I stand for The PEOPLE. I will Join the United States Marine Corps and fight the freedom we have , i will not fight for the Government, No marine ever has or ever will. I fight to defend the people and their rights and freedoms.

Some related but non-sequential observations:
- Seems to me that the big debate is Constitutional: Central power to "promote the general welfare" vs. State powers reserved in the Bill of Rights and specifically the 10th Amendment.
- More State independence allows people to have their cake and eat it too. To play into the stereotypes: NY'ers can go full on Mao and folks from Utah can marry all of their cousins. Don't like it? move to one of the other 48 States with slightly different variations.
- The Federal government is tasked with ensuring our civil liberties- at times against the vagaries of individual States. This is the conundrum- your natural rights should not be allowed to be violated by any State- regardless of what the majority of voters in that State think. (ex. no Slavery, no Jim Crow laws)
- How does one propose a Civil War which allows for independence while also allowing for protection of civil liberties? this is why the South failed in round 1.
- Would the objective of a Civil War be secession, a new confederation, or simply reaffirmation of 10th amendment powers and scaling down of Federal powers?
- Would this require war? Is war even plausible? Not to question the passion of the left, but seriously, is there anyone on the left who would be willing to die to keep a seceding State in the Union? My strong sense is that the bulk of the current military would either support secession or sit things out (if it became apparent that the Constitution was being usurped by the left). So....if seceding States don't attack, how exactly would they be stopped from seceding?
- I've heard some comments to the effect that if a State seceded that it should be isolated and its borders sealed. Why? Why treat a State where the people have chosen to leave the Union any different that we currently treat Mexico or Canada? Would the left feel differently if a hispanic California voted to leave the union and join Mexico vs. a predominately caucasian Montana? I suspect the left would embrace a hispanic and independent California but eschew a white and independent Montana. Interesting.
- What would cause a Constitutional crises (relieving the military from their oath)? Would federal government allowing repeated voter fraud and polling site intimidation be cause?

If you want to know what "right leaning people," think about a possible civil war contact Free Republic.
at 10:22 on August 5th, 2009
All states have a right to secede. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say a state cannot secede. Hostilities between the states did not start until months after South Carolina secede, December 1860. Then hostilities started when the Federal Troop refused to surrender Fort Sumter to South Carolina in April of 1861.
The idealogical divide is as deep today as it was in 1860. The straw that broke the back of the South was the Morel Tariff, NOT SLAVERY. Slavery, reprehensible as it is, was not the single cause of the American Civil War. Know your history, know your law.
Check further and you will find that Texas was soverign republic before it was admitted to the Union. Texas has an agreement in its contract with the US that allows for secession.

Federalism was the key to keeping the nation together. However, I truly believe it is dead and The Republic with it. What we have now is a mobocracy where the majority dictates to the minority.
I was a life long Republican that left the party in 2006 because I believed it had lost its way. I'm a Conservative with a libertarian streak in that I believe in state's rights. I'm a citizen of liberty before I am a citizen of these United States. The Constitution was a contract between the states and that contract has been broken. Bush was bad; Obama is a nightmare hellbent on bankrupting the country. I think both presidents are leading this nation straight into the toilet. The "House of Cards" that is the American economic system cannot be sustained and the people in Washington are too concerned with holding onto power to do anything about it. Bush and Obama delayed the inevitable collapse of our financial system.
When that collapse comes you will see the violence spill into the streets.
For myself, you ask? I'm moving to Texas next year so I can vote for Rick Perry. Texas will lead this counter revolution. Hopefully, there is a political solution and we can form The Free States of America and live in peace with our neighbors. If war comes this country will be a North American Lebanon. Something the left should think about if they try and impose their will on us.
