Rob Ford Toronto Mayor Coaches Football While doing CBC Interview
Audio: Rob Ford Coaches Football During CBC As It Happens Interview: Toronto Mayor Blows Off Carol Off From CBC Radio
Rob Ford seems to be taking a page from Tea Party and Republican politicians, choosing to speak to the media in the most begrudging ways. Case in point: Rob Ford's first national interview as Toronto Mayor was with Carol Off from CBC Radio's As It Happens.

- Rob Ford Toronto Mayor
As the CBC audio tape reveals, Rob Ford was on his cell phone running football practice while being interviewed by Carol Off.
At one point Mayor Ford can be heard yelling "Go out and get change, don't worry about the water just now..."
A true pro, Carol Off soldiered on, asking Rob Ford about similarities between his campaign and the current Tea Party and GOP campaigns underway in the USA mid-term elections.
He dismissed such comparisons outright, preaching the mantra of reducing government spending as Toronto grapples with a whole host of issues from public transit, to taxes, crumbling infrastructure.
When Carol Off asked him about public transit, Rob Ford replied "I gotta go..." abruptly hanging up the phone.
Listen to the Audio of the CBC Rob Ford Interview yourself, and decide if this is how the newly elected mayor of Canada's largest city should be conducting interviews that ask serious questions.
From a tactical point of view one can see how the As It Happens interview would appeal to his base. A newly minted mayor still taking the time to be a football coach would certainly appeal to Rob Ford's base - dismissing a pesky journalistic from the Public Broadcaster would send his supporters into fits of rapture.

Carol Off a true pro? Who are you kidding? By now EVERYBODY in Toronto knows that Rob Ford coaches football in the afternoons. After all, it was a contentious issue on several occasions during the election and was often used against him by his opponents and used as a positive by his team. But alas, Carol Off did not know and actually needed to ask Rob Ford if he was "...at a function..." of some sort before she was told he was at football practice.. All of Toronto knew Rob Ford was at football practice but not Carol Off. Aditionally last week several other journalists (John Moore from CFRB for example who is also a leftie) interviewed Rob ford while Rob Ford was coaching and was able to conduct an insightful 15 minute interview. So what was carol Off's problem? Why was she not able to conduct an interview? Unless of course her intention was never to conduct an interview but to conduct a hatchet job instead.

You don't think CBC planned this interview ahead of time? In fact, they were told to call at that exact time. What a horrible introduction to the new mayor of Toronto, especially for those of us in Canada who do not live in Toronto. Good luck with this one. Hopefully there will be a chance for a re-election. It's a sad sad day for Toronto...

Are you serious? You obviously don't know how these types of interviews work. Rob Ford does, and he chose to be completely rude and ignorant to the host of a national program. That interview is something you wouldn't even expect to hear from a high school kid running for student council president. Hatchet job? It's called an interview. Both sides are expected to act professionally. Carol Off did. Rob Ford did not.

If you listen to the interview it is clear that Rob Ford cut the interview short. CBC arranged the interview and was told to call that time.
The fact that Rob Ford is coaching football is not the issue. The issue is arranging interviews while he is coaching football - a clever ploy from an "optics" perspective - Rob Ford as "average joe" sells well to his base.

What an angry ignoramus. Since Rob Ford probably knew he was going to be coaching at the time, he should have requested a better interview time slot, both for the listeners sake and his own. I think As It Happens is pretty flexible as most of their interviews are pre-recorded (my understanding).

A Pro I dont think so!

I surmise if Joe Lefty were elected, the CBC would be gargling pearl necklaces with Joe Lefty, asking such insightful hardball questions, such as...
Mr, Mayor, excuse me, (wipes drizzle off her journalistic chin) If you were a tree... what kind of tree would be.....etc... and so on and so forth.

In the military we were always taught, you need not respect the man, but you must always respect the position. CBC did neither.

Ford supporters keep stating that the majority voted him because that's what the public wanted -- the Nazi party was also voted in by the majority and we know how well that ended.

First of all the Nazi party was founded as a socialist party, thus left wing, secondly Lenin was a socialist, left wing. To compare Rob Ford with the Nazis is like comparing Smitherman to Lenin.
Man, you are a total insipid Moron.

This is an embarrassing interview by a man who has just been elected Mayor, and I am amazed at how he is continually protected by his supporters so that Rob Ford never has to have professional, accountable behaviour. The name calling by his supporters of the left is equally as reprehensible.Fact: Rob Ford could not take the time to do his new job properly, and speak to the Canadian public on CBC radio's flagship show about his election with courtesy and dignity. Mayor Miller will be sorely missed.

well you may miss miller but i will not miss him , I hope he never wins another election again in any politics. he was a morron and a wasteful mayor. exp: garbage strike , he wasted our money and time being mister tuff gy but then folded and payed them over time , to compensate for lost time. he should just sign Miller waste management to clean the garbage and send the union packing.

I can't wait for the full accounting of the costs of the G20. When that happens we will see alot of people 'lawyering up'. Imho.
