A 17-Year-Old Student Named Robert Butler Jr. Has Been Identified As the Millard South High School Shooting Suspect

Butler opened fire on Wednesday at the Omaha school and wounded Principal Curtis Case and Vice Principal Vicki Kasper. He was found dead in a car about a mile away from the school of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Butler was also the son of a police detective and was a senior but police have not released any details as to why he may have opened fire and shot the two administrators.

It is believed that he may have left what could be a suicide note on Facebook, after recently transferring from a school in Lincoln Neb.

His Facebook status read:

"Everybody that used to know me I'm sry but Omaha changed me and fucked me up. and the school I attend is even worse ur gonna here about the evil shit I did but that fucking school drove me to this. I wont u guys to remember me for who I was b4 this ik. I greatly affected the lives of the families ruined but I'm sorry. goodbye."

A 16-year-old student at the school told The Associated Press she was just beginning lunch when a school administrator came into the cafeteria.

Case is in stable but serious condition, and Kaspar is in critical condition.

In this tragic school shooting, perhaps the perpetrator was taking an antidepressant. On December 15, 2010, PLoS Medicine released a study which showed that, in regard to prescription medications and violence, the FDA had received the most reports of violence from the SSRI & SNRI antidepressants (except for Chantix, the smoking cessation drug.)  The evidence of an association with violence was weaker and mixed for antipsychotic drugs and absent for all but one of the mood stabilizers. Yet, the antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, given for the most serious mental illnesses, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, would be the most likely culprit involved in violence but, instead, it was the antidepressants which had the most reports of violence.  They were given to patients that traditionally were the least likely to commit violence, the depressed and the anxious.   See: www.ssristories.com/show.php?item=4701 The Physicians Desk Reference states that SSRI antidepressants and all antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, agitation, etc.  These side effects can also appear during withdrawal. Also, these adverse reactions are not listed as Rare but are listed as either Frequent or Infrequent. Go to www.SSRIstories.com where there are over 4,300 cases, with the full media article available, involving bizarre murders, suicides, school shootings/incidents  [58 of these] and murder-suicides - all of which involve SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc, . The media article usually tells which SSRI antidepressant the perpetrator was taking or had been using but sometimes the media article just says "antidepressant" or "medication for depression".

Thanks Rosie Cee for this extensive report. I learned a lot more about these antidepressants doctors are precribing for these children and others. I recommend alternative, natural means, behavioral adjustments, etc.

the assistant principal ended up passing away from her injuries late this evening. check local omaha websites like ketv.com or kptm.com for the latest news. omaha is greatly shocked by the events that happened today but all the students are safe and prayers are with all the families that were affected in this shooting.

Now, come on! Antidepressants are a medicine for depression, and depressed people make more bad things than those who are well and enjoying life! There's no reason for blaming the antidepressants, specialists (and a great deal of their patients) know that a medicine is effective if its main effect is more powerful than the side ones. And all medicines have side effects. Some antidepressants treat you so that there is more serotonine in your system and well-being increases. In the beginning of medication, the patient may be so depressed that he/she is incapable of doing anything (even to kill oneself) and when the overall condition is coming better - it may just end up in suicide. But that is (if you do not kill yourself!) a temporary feeling and can be avoided if you know what it is! The more time passes, the more there are expectations to a profitable development. The main purpose of these medicines is to create a solid base to positive reactions and it is only achieved by a rather long and steady medication.

And... In the end of the medication period, there are dangers, too. Because of the body naturally is always seeking to keep a balance of its hormones, it reacts into medication and may reduce the normal (or already reduced) serotonine production - and that is a serious cause for not abruptly ending your medication but taking it gradually down when suitable condition is achieved. It may take years and very much cautious considering, though. These drugs are powerful, they should be taken seriously. But they are very effective in professional hands and under careful and steady control...

well that's a very assertive response based on your beliefs without actually being familiar with these medications which are notorious for psychotic side effects. How exactly do you know what bad things depressed people do? Do you mistrust depressed people so much that you want to put them down and fill them with medications. Okay. Go try some of those medications for two weeks. If you don't realize what a zombie it turns you into, divorced from human boundaries and emotions, you can come back and tell us all about it. I have actually tried certain antidepressants in the course of my psychology research and let me tell you I feel pity for anyone who needs to live like that, and who doesn't need to but is prescribed them for a doctor's profit and convenience.

What's worse than the news failing to report what the pharmaceutical industry already knows is John Q. Public's knee-jerk reaction to anyone dares state the obvious; the obvious, and the research... do some and find out.

He was not on anit depressants!! This is what happens when kids bully each other. Rober was a smart, outgoing and funny kid. I had classes with him for two years at southwest in lincoln and the robert i knew would have never done this. People really need to grow up and see the bigger picture here. Bullying is NOT RIGHT! It hurts a lot of people. To his family and friends i am so sorry for your lost he was a great guy with a bright future ahead of him. Rest in Peace Robert Butler. We love you and miss you greatly

We do not yet know if he was on psych meds.  The fact that Phoebe Prince was on Prozac & Seroquel and previously tried to kill herself only came out once the defense demanded it. The public was ready to blame it all on the bullies b/c they didn't know any better.  The truth is, Phoebe was a product of botched mental health treatment just like Alyssa Bustamante and Melissa Huckaby.  A lot of misinformation is being given to the public by the mental health industry (keep in mind, it is a for profit, public stock owned company, not a charitable organization like Goodwill)  The act of cutting, similar to bulimia and alcoholism releases endorphins in the brain and acts on the pleasure centers of the brain, just like illegal drugs.  The problem with medicating people who exhibit these addictions is that the psych drugs will enhance these addictive behaviors because they make more pleasure receptors available. The pharma and mental health industry is inncorectly medicated these people, asssuming wrongly that they are suicidal since they are cutting and making them worse. They are probably only suicidal b/c they are aware of their addictive behavior being out of their control, not because they are depressed.

I agree with siverhawks. Although I did not know him, there's a story behind each situation. I'm sure that Robert was a great kid! He just made a wrong choice, but choice must have been triggered by something or someone. We can't just judge and blame, the best thing to do is pray and figure out the problem and solve it. To me, it looks like schools need really help the youth. I'm not saying they are doing bad but there's always more to do. A lot of things happen in schools, and during those years... the youth are trying to find their personal, happiness... we all go through that.

I would not be at all surprised to learn that this teenaged shooter has been put on some type of psychiatric drug, such as Ritalin for ADHD, or antidepressants, etc.  Such was the case at Columbine in Colorado, where the shooters had been taking Paxil and Luvox.  Robert Butler may even have been using cannabis which can make one psychotic or have hallucinations. I'm certain that this important information will all come out when toxicology is done on this young man's body.  How tragic for all involved.  To learn more about this national tragedy of medication madness of children and teenagers, please see www.breggin.com.

As far as psych meds go, the entire psychiatric and pharma idustries are corrupt and the FDA receives all of it's funding from pharma in user fees, so I'm not sure how objective drug approvals are.  Pharma companies are allowed to give the FDA cherry picked studies.  Clinical trials involve eight week studies (but I bet pharma followed up on the trial participants to see how addicting the drug was, like Lexapro, and formulated their marketing strategies on how many people were still taking the drug years later.)  These drugs are being prescribed for life, or years, not eight weeks like they were trialed.  There are no studies on the effects on the developing child's brain, or adults, for long term use.  Only current events, like this story possibly, Phoebe Prince, Gabriel Myers, Rebecca Riley, Melissa Huckaby, Andrea Yates, Melanie Blocker Stokes, Montana Lance, David Carradine, & Lindsey Lohan, Columbine. These drugs are handed out like pez even though they have clandestine and sordid approval processes like the illegal drug trial conducted by Pfizer in Nigeria.  Pfizer might possibly be banned from doing business in the US because of it's conduct and we will be relieved of the most dangerous ones, Zoloft & Effexor.  Hopefully wikileaks puts the entire psych drug industry six feet under where it belongs and useful drugs for cancer and aids get worked on.

Here's another interesting tidbit of information.  The wikileaks cables show that WHO met with a company that represents all pharma companies and the agenda of their meeting was ways to create revenue for R &D for pharma.  One of the methods discussed was to tax internet use.  Hmmm.  They would have some control over the internet?  Control over what you see?  Shouldn't the WHO be discussing trends and emergency preparedness for pandemics?  Are they a for profit company?  When confronted with this discovery, the WHO then lied and stated that the company was spying on them.   Doesn't sound like government, more like anarchy.
