Robert "Joe" Halderman has pled not guily to charges of trying to blackmail David Letterman. Robert Halderman was released on $200,000 bail, ordering Robert "Joe" Halderman to stay away from David Letterman. That Halderman is caught on tape trying to collect a two million dollar check from Letterman's lawyer will likely not aid his case. Teh David Letterman blackmail case hinges on Robert "Joe" Halderman's attempt to extort money from the late-night talk show host over an affair with Stephanie Birkitt, who worked as David Letterman's assistant and appeared on his show.

Calling Halderman a "desperate" man, Salwen asked for $500,000 bond.

"We have additional information that he is debt to others," she said. "The evidence is compelling. It shows the defendant is desperate and that he's capable of anything."

An unidentified employee of the show in his 20s suggested the revelations were old news to insiders. "I couldn't believe my ears when [Letterman] said it. It happened. I'm surprised it didn't come out earlier."

Halderman was one of the top producers  for 60 Minutes. It's quite a stupid stunt regardless of his alleged desperation.

A single man has sex. This is news? Going to bed with your employee's may be a bit stupid and risky, but none of them have come out against him so far. So Whats the problem. People jealous that he is getting action and they aren't?

It was stupid from Halderman to do such things.........He thought he could get an easy money from Letterman, but he has paid off for his stupidity, he deserved it.
