The JVP has been very critical regarding the statement regarding the national question in Sri Lanka made by US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Robert O. Blake at Madras University in Chennai on 24th October. Issuing a communiqué regarding O Blake's statement the Political Bureau of the JVP states he has interfered in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka by his statement. The announcement states: US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Robert O. Blake in a speech at University of Madras in Chennai on 24th October, 2008 has made a serious statement regarding the national question in Sri Lanka. We vehemently oppose this act of interfering in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka. He had further said that the strategic relationship reached between the USA and India could be used for the benefit of Sri Lanka. We see this as an outrageous statement made against not only Sri Lanka but against all other countries in the region. As the strategic understanding and relationship reached between the USA and India is intended to spread the US-Indian domination in the Asian region, all countries including Sri Lanka should vehemently oppose such statements and unite to prevent such a manoeuvre in the region. The JVP emphasizes that the USA, India or any other country has no right to pressurize the government of Sri Lanka regarding the solution for the national question in the country. If anyone objects to the military measures taken by the government of Sri Lanka to defeat terrorism it could be considered as an act of support to terrorists. We would emphasize that the government of Sri Lanka has no other alternative other than defeating terrorism when the LTTE has faith only in terrorism and acts to create a separate state. Mr. O Blake further states that Sri Lanka, instead of wasting time trying to defeat the LTTE militarily, should accept a political solution. The truth, Mr. O Blake should understand, is that governments of Sri Lanka wasted time, for more than twenty years, not in trying to defeat tiger terrorism militarily but on discussions that were forced on Sri Lanka by the so-called international community to find so-called political solutions. What Mr. O Blake is attempting is to gang with India to halt the ongoing military operations to defeat tiger terrorism and drag Sri Lanka to a situation that it would again start wasting time in trying to find the so-called political solution. Rajapakse government, which talks of devolution while the Security Forces are engaged in trying to defeat tiger terrorism, is undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka before the so-called international community. We believe that this is the reason why reactionary countries and organizations attempt to make this government act according to their needs. President Mahinda Rajapakse, according to the mandate he received at the presidential election in 2005, is obliged to rule Sri Lanka without ambivalent. The JVP, which doesn't waver before threats to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and dignity of Sri Lanka, call upon all Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people to rally to defeat the aforesaid threats.
